4 Star Review The Perfect Pitch (Indianapolis Lightning # 1) by Samantha Lind Audio: Having enjoyed numerous books by Samantha Lind I could not wait to listen to The Perfect Pitch. This is Derek and Jillian’s second chance at love story and it was an entertaining and at times emotional listen.
This was my first read/listen of this author. I really liked Derek and Jillian as individual characters and as a couple. Aside from the fact that Derek got too caught up in his bachelor-like ways hanging with his team, I'm not sure why it took the finalization of a divorce to pull his head out of his rear end? Wouldn't a legal separation have given him the wake up call? He was immediately so attentive and determined to win Jill back even before the ink was dry on his divorce. I waited for him to stumble and fall back on his partying ways, even once, while they were apart, to make his renewed commitment to his family more meaningful, but all we saw was the man Jill originally fell in love with. I enjoyed listening to the story, but I think it would have been stronger if we could have witnessed Derek fight temptation and/or to see him grovel more to make it up to Jill. Solid 3.5 stars
This is a super sweet romance about reconnecting. Derek is a baseball player who forgets where is priorities are. When the judges gavel lands and finalizes his divorce it’s like he sees the light. Jillian loves her husband or ex husband but she didn’t want her kids growing up believing it’s okay to not be a priority. So when Derek vows to change his ways she doesn’t believe him but lets him try. This is a sweet feel good read with no third act break up. I enjoyed the utter sweetness and determination in this story. A really precious read about putting what you love first. I enjoyed the narration and would listen to more with them!
I cried during the first page. I love how once Derek hit rock bottom, he immediately realized what he needed to do and he did it. I also loved the peek of Madison and Richard (I did go back and read the part about Derek from that story). I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for more Lightning. I am so grateful every day for the joy books give me.
