Unabridged Audiobook
I loved this book and loved the narrator. It is such an epic novel with so many well developed characters, I also really enjoyed the narrator despite what some other reviewers thought!
Someone pointed out in a previous review that the narrator lectures. I don't blame them one bit. That was the story and a weakness of that story. Further, at around 23 hours, this story feels like a glorified clip show of a television series. Too much happens that makes the book worth reading, but it feels like characters say remember when we did this or that way too often for my liking. I think that is what hurts this book the most. It is essential reading for the story while not giving enough for fans that are hungry for lore and new stories in the series.
Good book. Loved the whole series.
one more great book in the series but the narrator is annoying, creates too much drama and yells where not necessary and also reduces his voice where unnecessary i wish Jim Bond was the the narrator of all the series. anyhow, one cant have what one always wants, plus i believe this narrator is giving his best for the audience.
This is the first book I read in the series, by accident. My newness to the series aside, this book is seemingly endless; the narrator doesn't read, he lectures. The constant repetition lead me to say out loud, several times, "We get it, move on!" When it's made clear that time is short or the characters must hurry, there will be a long conversation on mostly inconsequential matters, or a deep soul searching on how much Richard loves Kalen. Richard's 'bereavement' is perhaps the most insufferable part of the book; however, the author's lovingly repeated description of 'the enemy' and their brutality and rape was also an emotional drawback. I would suggest this series to those listeners with patience and a lot of time on their hands. It's not a compelling narrator, the story drags, and quite often you can let your mind wander while listening only to pick right back up once the soliloquies die down, but at it's core the concept is sound.
I could not listen to this in my car - not set up for MP3s. I have since read this book in the print form. Great book. If you like Goodkind, you will love this!
WOW! Although the series got lost a few books back, with Chainfire and now Phantom, I am so hungry for the last in the series, Confessor" that I might not be able to wait for it to come out in audiobook.
Terry's 10th volume of Richard and Kahlan again delivers everything that you have come to expect out of Terry and his masterful story telling. In this novel we come full circle in ways I never expected, wanna know what I'm talking about?? GET THIS BOOK and find out!! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this novel. And it definitely leaves me WANTING more! Can't wait to get a hold of the next and last book in November 2007!
I love this series and this one kept me wanting more. I feel I know these characters as friends and family. Excellent as always and leaves me begging for more.
This series is a must for any fantasy reader, while soome books falter slightly, they are all part of the greater whole. My only regret to reading this series is that it will someday end...
Terry Goodkind is finally bringing things to a head. Loose ends that have been hanging out there since Wizard's First Rule are being revisited. This book pickes up where Chainfire left off and builds up a lot of momentum. I can hardly wait for the series conclusion coming out in the fall of 2007. If you've been following the series this book is a must. If you haven't start with Wizard's First rule. If you gave up on the series early before reading Faith of the Fallen, read it and then pickup again at Chainfire. I'm not saying that Pillars of Creation and Naked Empire are bad, but they are more on par with Temple of the Winds and Soul of Fire which are the books that lost a lot of casual readers of the series.
