Unabridged Audiobook
Dated and replete with casual incest and misogyny - yuck. The narrator's style suited the material, which isn't a compliment.
The reading style of the narrator was so awful. I couldn’t finish the book.
Hours and hours of mediocre cliche. Tired theme, not well written, poorly drawn characters. Utter waste of time
This will be the second audio that I won't finish - stopped at 3hr26min06sec. First the narrator doesn't have vocal range. He has a hard Boston/NY/Jersey accent. Hard to separate and give a face to each character. Why does a story about a plague need a drawn-out section about a stepfather and stepdaughter becoming sexual, or a shady union boss in another state trying to impress his evening guest? The constant mention of the doctor driving a Lincoln felt unnecessary. The over the top descriptions of the women in this book were also distracting. With all that, I was still going to continue. However, for an audio release from 2021, it was surprising to hear the use of outdated terminology for Black Americans. That’s when I stopped listening.
I liked the storyline overall..except for the incest. Yuck....but detested the ending. Also not a huge fan of the narrator
I enjoyed the story but the narrator was very poor. His reading was very monotonous, staccato and mechanical without any expression or intonation. It gave the expression that he was reading the words without bothering to understand what he was reading.
Started a bit slow , but was hard to put down in the end
good story, good narrator, poor finish
