Unabridged Audiobook
Ms. Acevedo is a brilliant poet and writer, and her narration is gripping. Xiomara and her friends and family feel so real, I was sad when the novel ended.
This book was so good I caught myself crying remembering some emotions I had before dealing with my parents as a teen. She is a great writer and I hope I get to read more of her work.
A boring and uninteresting book
This book is compelling, insightful and brings forward waves of emotion. As a Dominican American this book mirrored so much of my childhood and transported me to my time as a teenager in New York City. Listening to it felt like hearing my own story and helped me feel that I wasn’t alone in so many of my experiences. Acevedo is simply brilliant and writes so beautifully that through her words I discovered pieces of my own story and processed some of my own teenage trauma. Five stars!
Fantastic YA novel blurring poetry and prose.
