Unabridged Audiobook
Spellbinding.
Great book but difficult to follow.
I read this book when it first came out and listening to it reminded me of how very wonderful it is. A timeless, beautifully written classic!
It was difficult to follow. I wasn’t sure I wanted to stick with it. The switching to different characters with no change in voice to speak of by the narrator caused me to repeat sections over and over. I thought I would never finish. Overall a good book as far as story goes though. Probably better to read the book than listen.
An absolutely amazing story. Loved it. Well .
Was not a fan of the narrator. storyline was good
This book was recommended by a friend and I am so glad I listened! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Such depth of life and how we traverse the road in front of us. This is a book I will return to.
Wow wow wow. Mrs. Kingsolver knows how to take the mind on an adventure. Truly a master storyteller. This book is definitely in the top 5 books of all time..
The deep forests and 20th century turbulence of Congo/Zaire experienced through the lives of an American missionary family, mostly its sisters. Great audio narration.
Captivated. Excellent book.
Loved the book. Barbara Kingsolver is an incredible writer. The ability to reflect different perspectives on a time and a place is one of the things that makes this book so special. Written with such great research and empathy. Highly recommend
Excellent story. I was hooked from the beginning!
Great book and amazing narrator.
Great writing, as always, and the narrator gives it real justice.
Great book, and I thought it was well read. Just know from the beginning that each chapter is written in different voices and characters. Pay attention to who is writing what section, but you will recognize their character in time anyway. It really makes you think. Remember this is historical fiction. God is not threatened by this book, but it helps me understand what religion looks like from different eyes.
I could listen to this book over and over again. I was leery about listening to a narrator read one of my favorite books of all time. She opened BK’s book to me even more than I could’ve imagined. What a great performance. Everyone should have to read this book
It was a good history of Africa and its plight with independence. Each independence was both personal and with foreign powers I love the book I was reading it during the time they were celebrating Congo’s Independence from the wickedness of the Belgians not the country is so free today change powerful element in our daily life
So far it’s a interesting story, at first I wasn’t to sure about it the beginning of it , but it’s really a good story
