Unabridged Audiobook
It’s like Dracula, but worse! Don’t waste your time, just listen to the English version. There is another version of Powers of Darkness translated from Swedish by Rickard Berghorn, but I don’t think that’s available as an audiobook. There are a handful of interesting differences between the plot of (this version of) Powers of Darkness and Dracula, but what’s most notable to me is what’s left out. The second half of the story seems like a condensed summary of the English version of Dracula. It does not contain any of Mina’s diary entries or Lucy’s letters, but instead a third person summary. The diary entries and letters by Van Helsing are also excluded. Most of Dr. Seward’s storyline is excluded, so Renfield has been cut out of the story. Many scenes and details from the English version are not present or are told with less detail. Most of my favorite parts of Dracula are not in this book, with nothing interesting to replace them.
It has a lengthy yet interesting introduction about the history and origin of the work, then the actual story. If you enjoyed Dracula you’ll enjoy this, though it doesn’t top the original in my opinion
