Unabridged Audiobook
Just loved this novel. So authentic and beautiful. The narrator was fabulous.
Fantastic!! He writes like a camera moving from character to character to landscape to situation et cetera et cetera. In the beginning I didn't like the narrator at all, he stresses every third word more or less, and also there seemed to be a problem with the recording (a compressor/limiter audibly working). Later I got used to it and the technical problem got better, at times I even found it very good. Listen to this novel!!!!
Interesting - worth listening to the discussion with the author at the end - but not comfortable listening. The narrator at times sounded like a vicar preaching from the pulpit - every sentence pronounced as if weighing every word full of self importance.
i loved this book and the performance. It feels like a masterpiece, every single word chosen for its narrative and poetic effect. The modernist twists with frequent unexpected and disconcerting turns is gritty and challenging. I wanted to savour every sentence.
It took me a while to get into this book but that may have been due to my being distracted. It ended up being one of my favourite books
Another masterpiece by one of my all time favourite authors. Poetic and poignant, strikingly beautiful and bursting with sadness, not unlike the complex country it is set in. The South African narrator did a sterling job at bringing the work to life. I’m sad that it ended, for now the wait for Galgut’s next masterwork begins…
