Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle (May 22, 1859 - July 7, 1930) was a Scottish physician and author, best-known for his stories about Sherlock Holmes, considered milestones in the field of crime fiction, and for the adventures of Professor Challenger. He was a prolific writer whose other works included science fiction stories and fantasy novels, most notably, "The Lost World," as well as, plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction and historical novels.
