Relic, a Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child thriller that introduces FBI Special Agent Pendergast

Just days before a massive exhibition opens at the popular New York Museum of Natural History, visitors are being savagely murdered in the museum's dark hallways and secret rooms. Autopsies indicate that the killer cannot be human...

But the museum's directors plan to go ahead with a big bash to celebrate the new exhibition, in spite of the murders.

Museum researcher Margo Green must find out who--or what--is doing the killing. But can she do it in time to stop the massacre?

Since I saw the movie first, I never felt the need to read the book. All I can say is, boy was I wrong! This is a superb novel, my favorite of all time! The movie is not a great representation of the book, so much rich story-line was changed or cut out. I started my admiration of AXL Pendergast with "Still life with Crows". I have read the novels from that point on. I decided to backtrack and start from the beginning,.This is narrated so well, I wish all audio books were read in this realistic manner. Great book, equally great narrator, this is a must read!

I couldn't put this book down. I listened one evening after work for 6 straight hours. Brisk pace keeps you going...and going...and going. Great story, fantastic narrator.

The narrator was way too “over the top.” His Louisiana accent sounded like Alabama. And Long Island? Just awful. He needs lessons from George Guidall, the master of every accent.

Narrator does a great job. Easy to listen to and a wide variety of voices and accents to distinguish characters. The story itself I did not enjoy so much. Cliffhangers are cool and all but every chapter ends on a cliffhanger. The story jumps around to several people and I would forget who is doing what and what cliffhanger they were left in. There is no clear protagonist and I was constantly wondering which characters are important and which are the side characters. I was very into the story at the beginning but started losing interest at the end. The writing style and story just isn’t for me.

This book was amazing! I’m a huge fan of horror and creature features, and this was by far the best I have read. I loved the detail and intricate science as the story develops, and the narrator was awesome. I often find narrator’s distracting if I don’t like them in an audiobook, but this one was smooth and did a great job with the voices. I highly recommend Relic, it’s detailed and scary- you won’t be bored with this story.

This was a thriller through and through. Its campiness smooths out the hard scientific vernacular. What fun!
