Unabridged Audiobook
A good semi biography of the two men who solved the Rosetta Stone. The book bounces between describing the Englishman and Frenchman who deciphered the Rosetta Stone. It spends a great deal of time describing the circumstances of each man and the historical context they loved through. It was fascinating to learn how complex the process was back in the 1800s.
Without hesitation, I highly recommend this fascinating book. The Riddle... takes you into the microcosm of antiquarism and the depth of research libraries and museums. It introduces you to the competition and political intrigue in this mysterious and intellectual inner world. While I am neither a linguist nor a historian, I was gripped by the narrative of this book and its subject matter. The book is meticulously researched; the clear, energetic narration is superb.
