This book is not funny or witty. It was extremely boring. I couldn’t finish it.

I read reviews prior to listening to this book. They all indicated that this was a funny/hilarious/hysterical/witty book (chose whichever adjective you prefer). It isn’t. It’s a good read and shows how daring (or desperate), a penniless family of females can be in this era. It’s a clever story (I don’t see where the frivolity/humour comes in) which had echoes of Georgette Heyer’s ‘The Masqueraders’. The resolution was very well done, but the final chapter was a bit slapped together and spoilt the rest of the book by its disinterested conclusion. This is a good read, it’s not a funny, laugh out loud, humorous, rollicking tale. It’s well told, until you reach the final paragraphs. That loses it a star. The narrator did a good job.
