Unabridged Audiobook
Demon Copperfield knock off, characters predictable and easy to not like. Folks striving to die.
Too long and drawn out. Persevered but shouldn’t have. Predictable finish. Narrator ok.
I can’t handle this narrator for the whole book. Maybe for a character, because he has a great voice, but I can’t even finish listening
A great story. I feel the author was concise in what he wanted to include and often left me ready to hear more about an event, but his timing was right. Jonah and River are characters you care for. There were a mix of bad guys and men you admire. The weaving of God and nature and philosophical ideas into a story sometimes full of despair was brilliant. Last but not least the narrator was incredible. He truly brought the story to life.
For me, I felt like I needed more character development. I never really connected with any of them, and sometimes was confused about who was who and their role in the story. A lot of the dialogue was very drawn out too. Could’ve been a good story.
If you have patience, this is an amazing book. The narrator is wonderful. Carriages are all set, primarily as druggies, those forgotten, those abused, neglected, low class- but there is so might insight BY THE CHARACTERS! Many have very deep thoughts on life… I found myself relistening to many of their thoughts/ statements. Not as deep as Shakespeare, but who on earth can understand what Shakespeare. Initially, you don’t recognize the deep thinking and thoughts by the characters, quite tricky.
Coul.d be a good book but for the Narrator...
From the prologue to the epilogue this novel is a feast of literature.
