Summary
Now featuring a new introduction by Dr. M. Scott Peck, the twenty-fifth anniversary edition of the classic bestseller The Road Less Traveled, celebrated by The Washington Post as “not just a book but a spontaneous act of generosity.”

Perhaps no book in this generation has had a more profound impact on our intellectual and spiritual lives than The Road Less Traveled. With sales of more than seven million copies in the United States and Canada, and translations into more than twenty-three languages, it has made publishing history, with more than ten years on the New York Times bestseller list.

Written in a voice that is timeless in its message of understanding, The Road Less Traveled continues to help us explore the very nature of loving relationships and leads us toward a new serenity and fullness of life. It helps us learn how to distinguish dependency from love; how to become a more sensitive parent; and ultimately how to become one’s own true self.

Recognizing that, as in the famous opening line of his book, “Life is difficult” and that the journey to spiritual growth is a long one, Dr. Peck never bullies his readers, but rather guides them gently through the hard and often painful process of change toward a higher level of self-understanding.

Some concepts left out but altogether an excellent audio abridgment of a phenomenal book.

Anyone who is going through any kind of hardships should read/listen to this book. I for one will probably listen to it once every couple months.

Excellent. An insightful explanation of the origins of mental illness, parenting tips, and human relationship problems. Although written 44 years ago, it is as timely and pertinent today as it was then. High recommend.

The book starts with brilliant psychology based advice for life, really good life altering stuff. Then it devolves into a preachy (and logically flimsy) sermon about god. A common god complex stereotype for doctors is shown by the author, even talking about being a god; WOW. Still, good advice in the first 2/3's of the book.

Amazing insight. Timeless even though originally published in 1978. This 25th Anniversary 1997 abridged (shortened) version is succinct and easily applicable to oneself and those we interact with. The author delves into childhood happenings that shape how one is as an adult with the teaching that one has power over oneself to change those childhood patterns that no longer constructively serve for the greater good. While this book is an easy listen while multi-tasking doing mundane chores like yardwork & laundry, it is meaty enough to keep the chore thoughtless so as to allow one's mind to chew on the gravity and depth of assessment the author delves into in an attempt to get one to better understand oneself and others. The author breaks the book into four sections: Discipline, Love, Growth/Religion, and Grace. The mastery of these four components throughout one's lifetime will result in a more balanced person who can love and grow unconditionally to oneself and permitting the same of others. A must read for all wanting to escape (grow in a healthy way) personal/relationship crazies of either too much responsibility acceptance (nerotic self blame) at one extreme, and too little (narcissist world blame) on the other extreme.

Enlightening...to say the least. This book carries a necessary message and eloquently addresses several experiences that impact the growth of the inner being.

I'm in my 60's now and still learned quite a lot about humanity from Dr.Peck. Wish I had studied this in psychology- would have helped me be a more disciplined adult. The study on Grace was most interesting.
