The Rulebreaker

I received a gifted ALC of this novel via Valentine PR and am voluntarily writing this review. THE RULEBREAKER is the third book in THE DUGOUT series by Piper Rayne. Coach’s daughter Penelope — reconnects with her father’s baseball player, Decker Davis, inserts himself seamlessly into the lives of herself and her daughter. Deciding to pursue the woman he has loved since he was seventeen years old, Decker breaks down the walls Penelope has built around her heart. This is an endearing, spicy, open door, first person, dual POV with occasional chapters from the POV of a family therapist, contemporary sports romantic comedy with tropes including baseball romance, brother’s ex, second chance romance, single mom, coach’s daughter, close proximity, and childhood friends to lovers. This author duo delivered another witty and tender story which pulled me in from the very first chapter. I loved the chapters where the Decker twins are in therapy and we get so much insight into the breakdown of their relationship. The audiobook with dual narrators, Teddy Hamilton and Willa Jaymes and featuring the full cast including JF Harding, Sean Masters, Connor Crais, Austin Stone, CJ Bloom, Erin Mallon, and Meg Sylvan was a joy to listen to. I love having the characters sound the same in every book! I definitely recommend this novel, in any format, for readers and listeners who enjoy vulnerable sports romcoms.
