Why would a 57-year-old with a genetic heart condition attempt the fastest journey on foot from Cape Town to Cairo?

In Running Africa, Keith Boyd tells the story of his epic run, complete with injuries, illness, being taken hostage, getting caught up in a rebel firefight, and having members of his team imprisoned.

From a soft start in South Africa to increasing danger and hardship as he headed further north, Keith reminds himself – and us – of why he undertook the journey.

After a business career spanning 40 years, Keith repurposed himself as a socio-economic activist, determined to make a dent in the greatest issue of our time: poverty.

He founded RainbowLeaders.org.za to motivate young Africans to vote, elect great leaders and hold them accountable – and soon realised that the organisation needed a platform to spread awareness of its message. His audacious attempt to break the 25-year-old Guinness World Record became that platform.
