Summary:

The Anthony Award-winning author of the smash hit Sookie Stackhouse novels displayed her storytelling brilliance with this novel published nearly two decades before Sookie first appeared. A shocking tale of violence and justice, A Secret Rage is vintage Charlaine Harris. After a modeling stint in New York, Nickie Callahan returns to Tennessee hoping to enjoy the sweet, easy life as a college roommate to her best friend. But then a sexual predator strikes close to home, victimizing women in a string of vicious attacks. Desperate to stop the brutality, Nickie casts a suspicious eye at every man she knows. She soon narrows her list down to 10 suspects—and then takes matters into her own hands. Graphic and completely engrossing, A Secret Rage is undeniably Harris, yet shows a unique facet of this talented author. Narrator Johanna Parker, the acclaimed reader of the Sookie novels, provides a stirring performance.

It was a little odd to periodically hear "You have reached the end of cassette number.... please turn the cassette over". A little distracting, but ok I guess. One of Charlaine Harris' early novels. Different from her later series, it is a bit darker, but still a very excellent read. Johanna Parker, who later narrated the Southern Vampire (Sookie Stackhouse, True Blood) novels does an awesome job, as always.
