Unabridged Audiobook
Soooo this book is super problematic, to put it mildly. Let’s start with the overall tone. in many, ways it is full of so much deep-seated, shame and pain. The way, or rather. the tone, in which the author talks about her former self. is honestly concerning. Healthy stable, people don’t talk about themselves were there past. with this level of vile hatred. that she speaks about herself, and her past as if it’s an evil being that is not normal or healthy. considering this book, is called sex Jesus and questions the church forgot. the fact that consent, is never even mentioned, is shocking. It’s just purity culture purity culture purity culture purity culture nothing more nothing less quite frankly it’s a perfect example of toxic purity culture. I mean from the self-loathing, about normal sexual experiences. to the homophobia, which is prevalent. to the ridiculous, standards and having to convince herself that was OK she wasn’t a virgin. or talking about her virginity, as if it was technical. The fact that her and her husband got married because they hooked up one night. of course we have, the sex is bad, sex is bad sex, is bad sex is bad, and then when you get married. it’s wonderful amazing and perfect. Not only is it amazing, and perfect. Not not only when your marriage be better. Because of course, The sex won’t just be good the sex will be mind blowing good. Yeah not according to people that actually study human sexuality. Mine blowing sex, has a a lot more to do with communication and things like that then marital status. Trigger warning by the way The Author casually mentions, that her father killed himself. very casually. as this is when a lot of her real issues started. Which I mean obviously, that would make issues happen. and instead of the author talking, about how the death of her father. let her down a path, of struggling with relationship with men’s. acting out sexually, We don’t get the full story, of a woman who heals from such a tragedy, and learns. to love herself again we get a story of a woman who shames her self continuously. yet is claiming, that she has no more shame. She doesn’t address, the fact that her father suicide could have led to her issues not ever not once. Nope it was all her fault and the fact that she was in kissing boys in high school
This really opened a conversatiin with my husband on the topics we should have with our kids. The things I wished I had known when growing up. Then really praying for the past men tonreally receive healing instead of just my salvation. I would refer this book and read it over again as well. Loved this!
