'A brilliantly realised world of Imperial ambition and native resistance' Simon Scarrow

Will Britain take him in... or mark him as its enemy?

Faustus Valerianus is the son of a Roman father and a British mother, a captive sold among the spoils after Claudius’ invasion.

When both parents die within a month of each other, he sells the family farm and enlists, joining legendary general Agricola’s campaign to conquer the entirety of the British Isles.

But Faustus will have to contend with more than ferocious British warriors and whip-cracking elements. For the bonds of blood can weigh heavy on one’s soul. The call of his mother’s true people. His father’s restless shadow. Faustus must carry them with him...

A deeply moving, gripping, and epic historical drama, perfect for fans of Ben Kane, Alex Gough, and Andrew Frediani.

A run-of-the-mill journey here for me, unfortunately. Although this audiobook was not by any means a poor experience, it lacked sufficient hook and depth of characterisation to retain my interest for extended periods. I don’t plant to return for #2 in the series.

This was one of the most enjoyable Rome military books I have listened to. I love the way the narrator reading.

I thought the narrator was good with so many people. It was a bit challenging to keep up with who was who at the start but it was really interesting and a great story!

Good storyline, well narrated and got hooked on the story from Chapter One. If you enjoy fictional period history books this is a winner.

The book lacked details in respect to the battle sequences, the use of magic was weakly covered and left me wanting. Abundant coverage of relationships to the point of being a romantic themed book. I loved the connection made to Roman history and why it got the stars it did.
