Summary
Jaxie dreads going home. His mum's dead. The old man bashes him without mercy, and he wishes he was an orphan. And then, in one terrible moment, his life is stripped to little more than what he can carry and how he can keep himself alive. There's just one person left in the world who understands him and what he still dares to hope for. But to reach her he'll have to cross the vast saltlands on a trek that only a dreamer or a fugitive would attempt.

The usual brilliant poetic and very compelling Tim Winton. He is probably in the top 10 writers of out time and undoubtedly the best Australian writer

A gritty adventure story, depicting Australia’s vast interior superbly. Was great for our drive across the country! Thanks Tim for keeping us occupied, great book.

Loved this book! Very brutal and graphic at times- had to skip over some violent animal parts. But loved Jaxie and the entire adventure. Not what I was expecting, but loved every second!

Another great Tim Winton tale I couldn't stop listening as the narration was also top class.

As usual, Tim Winton has written another amazing book, one that will stay with me. His characters have depth and humanity, his love and understanding of landscape and how it shapes life is brilliant. And the stories told are not all tidied up. I I think about them, just as we do with real life, long after the book is finished.

Great feeling to the book but it ended abruptly...

I found the story wandered, but enjoyed it.
