Surprisingly--and despite the number of movies, books and TV shows featuring him--the wildly popular Sherlock Holmes left many unsolved mysteries behind. His creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, couldn't help but leave some clues--like ticking time-bombs--in the works themselves and in his own bizarre life. Both a Spiritualist and medical doctor, Doyle's own mental state and double, secret life is clearly on display in the books, in the characters of Holmes, Doctor Watson and even the villains, including Moriarty.
