This book started out slow but boy did it get good fast. I loved it, was surprised at the twists and turns. An excellent read!!!

I really REALLY disliked this book. The plot is hugely unrealistic and reads like a Hollywood script, the characters are one dimensional and unlikeable, and the writing itself is poor. After googling I discovered that the author is a film writer and that is exactly how this is written. While I enjoyed the female narrator and feel she did an excellent job, the male narrator puts on a suggestively unpleasant voice from the beginning. I had difficulty tolerating his obnoxious tone.

It has a bit of a slow start. The psychological mystery was enjoyable, but the ending was predictable and it didn't quite live to the hype.

This book is so mundane and formulaic. I would put this squarely in the category of ‘attempted screenplay’, meaning it’s trying really hard to be a movie but just lacks all the depth and skill one requires. How does this get a single good review??

The Silent Patient was simply amazing. I pride myself on being able to think ahead and figure out what will happen through to the ending. I am pretty good at it but Michaelides totally stunned me. I actually slapped the sides of my face “Home Alone” style. I had absolutely no idea where this book was going or how it would conclude. Beyond that delicious surprise, the book is well written, the narrators were very good, and I was so engaged in the story that I binge listened and finished it in less than 3 days. Then I went back to the big reveal and simply had to read that part again. It will be hard to pick my next psycho thriller because this one was so fabulous.

Great story. The narration was also quite pleasant. I expected a twist at the end, but never expected THAT twist.

I loved this book! The story is interesting from its beginning and leads the reader down all sorts of dead-ends (in a good way) and the twist at the end was totally unpredictable. The author creates very real characters, especially those of the "patient" and the protagonist. If you are looking for a story that carries you along and makes you want to know how it will end, this is for you; but it won't be the end that you may be expecting! Having two people narrate the story was a great idea. Both narrators were excellent.

This book just didn’t do it for me. I kept wondering who the killer was. When I found out...BAM the story ended. I felt angry with the subtle ending.

I hate when male narrators pretend to be female characters, please hire women for women’s roles. The only female voice was grating, breathy land babyish, off putting. I liked the twist, but some parts just felt like overly long monologues.

Reading it for book club this month. Maybe it is a British thing or a relic from when the author worked in a hospital, but no one in this book, with the possible exception of Bonnie, is even close to having borderline personality disorder. We have a good friend with it and can now fairly easily recognize it. I liked that the narrator read fast as I typically listen on VLC so I can play it at 1.3-1.8 speed.

I’m not finished yet, I have about 3 hrs left. I find this book not very eventful and therefore not very interesting. I see numerous posts about the twists and turns, but I’ve yet to really hear much suspense. If it’s all at the very end, it is a long listen to only enjoy the ending.

Slow, WAY to descriptive, the words “as if” and “like the” could be made into a drinking game in this book. I didn’t care for the dual narration, the man was ok, but the woman got on my nerves for some strange reason.

This book was extremely slow to get going. I wasn’t interested until the last 90 minutes. And there was far too many holes in the plot to make sense. The twist at the end was good, but very unrealistic. So if someone can listen without thinking “That would never happen”, then they will do OK. The narrator had a lovely voice that was very easy to listen to. And thank goodness for that, because the first 4 hours of the story were painfully slow to keep going.

Too many unbelievable holes. IV Morphine then able to write pages in her diary before she passes out? Really?

I'm definitely waiting to see the movie!

Good book.

I initially started reading this book manually, but it was a little hard to get into. After the 3rd chapter I switched to listening to it on audio books. It was still a little different to get into, but I would say after chapter 5 it really got good. After that, I listened to it almost non-stop, finishing it on the same day I began. I look forward to checking out more titles by this author.

It was an interesting read as I’m a pyschotherapist myself. I was shaking my head at all the things he did ethically wrong!! But the twist…. The twist was twisting! Good read.

Great listen! while I did feel like the ending became predictable by the middle of the books, it was a gripping and suspect list was long. I did feel there were a couple of loose ends not tied up, stories of side characters left unflushed out. That could be a consequence of having a self focused character center to the story. A recommended listen.

I absolutely LOVED this book! I would give it 500 stars if I could. This book definitely, in my opinion, lives up to all the hype around it. I really liked the narration as well. I read primarily psychological thrillers entirely, and I can often see twists coming from a mile away, but this one at the end I did not see coming at all! I have been recommending this book to everyone I know and will continue to do so.

After all the hype about this book, I was really disappointed when I listened to it. I just wasn't engaged by the male narrator AT ALL, and the female narrator's voice and presentation didn't fit Alicia's vibe well in my opinion. Everyone has their own opinions, and I respect those who really like this. It just didn't work for me: not the plot, not the writing, not the narration. Oh, well...

This was an awesome book. It kept my interest until the very end which was unpredictable. The narrator also made the story more interesting. I definitely recommend this book.

This was a read for our neighborhood book club. I got about a third of the way through and had to stop. The narrator was good. I did pick it up a week later and finish. I strongly disliked the doctor from the get-go and was irritated about the little information on the main character. There was a time in the middle where I considered changing my mind about the doctor, but that quickly flew right back out the window. There was enough interest to want to know the full story line, but definitely wouldn’t recommend the book in general.

I didn't love the beginning and the middle kind of dragged, but, I loved where the story ended up.

4.0 as a thriller a 3.5 for the resolution. The men are all self-centered. I pray that no one gets a therapist like Theo. He's new on staff and only works with one patient? I couldn't wait to find out what actually happened. 5 stars for Alicia and 4 starts for Theo.

My first audio book that held my attention from the beginning to the end. The narrators NAILED it. A masterpiece at its finest. Great storyline and characterization (I am very picky when it comes to books!) Now I have yet to find any other audiobooks as good as this. Thank you so much to Alex and the narrators for making this an amazing read and listen!

it's was okay. I got rather boring many times throughout the book. the were parts were I found myself not paying attention. However, the stars are for the twist at the end. Although I found myself not really enjoying the abrupt way it ended. Thrillers are usually not my thing, and I think it will stay that way.

I didn't know what to expect from this book. a friend recommended it and the only thing that was told to me was there was a crazy twist at the end. The book kept me engaged the entire time. The two narrators had dealt nice and fluid voices. The story is not a typical one and even though the twist came out at like the last 10 minutes of the entire book, it was still really good.

Started this book right after listening to Mexican Gothic, which ruined the narration a bit. Would have been a better audio experience if Daniel Radcliff was the narrator - but I understand he was probably too busy. :p I was also able to call the twist halfway into the book. Still really entertaining otherwise.

It was so slow at the beginning but the ending twist made it somewhat better. I definitely think this read like a script for a movie. Can totally see this becoming a movie of some type.

This is a slow burn thriller and I was surprised that I did enjoy this pacing. The novel gives you a chance to get to know it’s characters and I came to care about what happens to the protagonist in this story.I was surprised by the twist ending and I didn’t see it coming.

I was pleasantly surprised that the book was narrated by two people from their perspectives (and both narrators were very good, was to listen to). The way the two stories eventually intertwine while still maintaining an air of mystery made it captivating to listen to. Ending was great. A very easy read.

I really enjoyed this book. I drove Across the Country and this was my favorite book to listen to. It moved quickly through but still included lots of details. The story had fun twists and made my drive ho quickly. The narrators were both really good. They had English accents but were still easy to understand. Great book!

I haven’t finished it yet, but so far the book has so much suspense. The author craftily weaves the story together in such a way that your assumptions about the end change many times. I would have liked a little less profanity but that’s just me. So far it’s a great book. 10/10 read!

took several weeks as I only listen on my walks with the dog. This is my 1st experience with a whole audio book. I have tried audio books before but the narrator always put me off. It was the narrator's voice that first drew me into this book. The book was OK but I felt the end could have shorter or even edited so the last passage at end could have been even more of a shock to hear.

I enjoyed it and it was a good twist at the end - but I was thrown off a bit by the way he misled you by the time line. He writes the end as if things are happening in the present tense when it is really happening in the past.

It is a very good whodunit mystery and I was surprised at the very ending which is exactly what I want when I’m listening to an audiobook. I 100% recommend this for anyone who wants a great reader to keep them occupied on a long drive or at the beach or wherever. Be prepared to not get much done while reading this book because you will not want to put it down. I promise.
