Unabridged Audiobook
Did not enjoy this book at all. I kept saying to myself it’s going to get better but it never did. I gave up at 12 hours in just couldn’t keep going it was just too bad. The numerous narrators make it really, really really hard to listen to and the sound quality is terrible.
Groundbreaking in its day, the story itself was pretty interesting, but the level of detail in the writing, the babystepping into every action, and how much everything costs, while great if you're doing research in that era, gets pretty tedius. A lot of repetition and heavy handed. I thought I had a lot of patience for turn of the century detail, but I have to conclude Dreiser is not my favorite author. The narration was so bad in parts, that might have had an impact on my assessment of the story. I vowed never to download another one of these.
Great book . American classic that passed the test of time. Loved the parts narrated by Bob Sage. Had to increase the audio speed when Andrea Deans took over the narration.
Great story but almost had to stop when Andrea Deans took over the narration.
