Unabridged Audiobook
Listen, I had fun with this and was along for the ride. It had an interesting take on the trials and I really enjoyed the magic system. The world building felt balanced and the feminine rage was raging. But for some reason, I just never got fully pulled in..I wasn’t as invested as I wanted to be. Don’t get me wrong, it was easy to follow and I moved through it pretty quickly, but it never quite hit that point where I couldn’t put it down. I think I was missing that emotional connection to the characters, the kind that makes every decision feel urgent. And I’m all for a cinnamon roll MMC but his self loathing just became a bit too much for me. Instead of adding depth, it started to weigh down his character and made it harder to fully root for him. I kept wanting more from him, more growth, more pushback, something that showed he was moving forward instead of staying stuck in the same cycle. Still a decent 1st book and will be diving into book 2.
I liked the book itself. It was really good! I did not like the male narrator for Cedric at all. He was too sharp and nasally for the part I felt. There were also some moments when he voiced Kit that didn’t make sense to me since we have a dual narration happening in the book.
