Unabridged Audiobook
Loved the humor And insight
Most of the book was her relishing and excusing her misbehaviors, seeming to thrive off of them…which the ending explained the best. I wish more of the book would have been put into how she worked to improve herself…although I realize not everyone would want that as it is more medical and not as sensational. The ending wrapped it up nicely and was well done. As a nurse who also works with many mental health patients, I appreciated the deeper dive into medical terms and care and what it feels (or doesn’t feel) like. Sociopathic vs psychopathic is a very important difference to acknowledge.
This book was awesome! I couldn’t stop listening! So fascinating!
Fascinating book!
A bit repetitive. Great information.
What a great and informative read! Mental health is such a struggle and the author has such a sense and understanding of hers.
Patric’s delivery of her own story is the best narrating I have ever heard. This book helped me greatly in understanding the few that I know who lack empathy.
Overall, an interesting read. Rating it a 4 star because the second half of the book was less engaging. I will say that I can't really blame the author for the parts of the book I disliked. I think everyone should read about things they can't relate to.
Gives great insight of what it's like being a sociopath. The pov also narrates how the stigma of sociopathy causes people to believe sociopathy is bad and creates a lack for research.
repetitive.
I love that the author narrated the audiobook!
Well written, great narrator. Reading it as a story kept me interested. Medical narratives are hard to follow in most books. This was a great insight into the mind of someone living different from the so called normal. I could relate on many aspects. It would be interesting to hear more on a deeper dive on the therapy. Overall very good read
I thought it was one of the all-time best audiobooks I have ever heard. Patric Gagne doesn’t care. As a former teacher of all levels starting with 9 year olds, I so felt for every body. Parents, teachers, the kids trying to make friends, and the sociopaths of the world. But they don’t care. She did though. as she got closer to deciding that it would be good to help her ilk. God love her. To have a life where you must meticulously observe the the words and facial expressions, the behaviors, the gesticulations of others just to keep the pressure cooker from getting too hot to cope with, every day…OMG. She HAD to be the reader. Only she could fully show the utter exasperation she experienced! I could really relate to her intensity of expression at those times she was about to lose it. I consider her one of the bravest people in my life to tell her truths instead of hiding all of it. But it isn’t really bravery is it? Oops…no but it is hugely generous, and I wonder how on earth she developed her world-class perspective. The book is a Godsend to the families who are struggling mightily to understand how their loved one operates and why and how to frame that person’s existence as they try to love them. Excuse.
Not one of my favorite books I’ve read recently. Author sounds a bit full of herself as others have mentioned. I’d check it out from the library rather than pay for it.
honestly fascinating! it broke a lot of cliches I had, thank you so much for it, for making me smarter, and give me the chance to share that knowledge to my friends and family!
Fascinating
super interesting and great
I really enjoyed the story of Patric Gagne’s life and the unfolding of her groundbreaking research into the possible causes & treatment of sociopathy. She’s helping to reverse the negative connotation this understudied part of mental health has had for so many years. Understanding the difference between a psychopath & a sociopath was eye opening. And that was just the beginning. All sociopaths & their sociopathic traits aren’t bad! (And some aren’t even drawn that way!) PS: If you want to understand the last line, you’ve gotta read the book.)
very repetitive
It was okay, gave you a lot of insights into this 'condition' and so that was worth the listen. Was not interested in all the research type stuff, but others may be. It was not my normal read so was just meh
This is an incredible book that every therapist psychiatrist or psychologist should be forced to read under the threat of imprisonment.
25 min in I’m so sold!!!!
amazing and real
