Unabridged Audiobook
Just finished listening to The Soulbound Scar audiobook, and loved it! And I’m not sharing any spoilers, just go listen for yourself! Unlike a lot of books, this one starts with an exciting arc to get the reader/listener hooked, and keep them wondering how and why the events are occurring. With several different events occurring throughout the book to keep the momentum going. I had a feeling I knew what was happening with the dreams Alice was having, and the voice she could hear. But then was shocked to find I was only half right(ish) at the end. The end of the book sets things up for the next chapter of the series, which I can’t wait to listen to! And I like how questions still remain, such as, is Alice the Eon? What is expected of her? Where is her dad? How did her dad see the monster? Are they of Illithium descent? How is she going to get out of the situation she has found herself in at the end? I had expected Ace to become a bigger part of the storyline, but maybe that will come with the rest of the series. He seems like a fun character…even if he’s not up to date with the times (kinda makes me think of Captain America and Thor in the early Marvel movies). M.C. Warring has definitely done her research into Japanese spirits and demons. At first I wasn’t sure if they were made up creatures, so Googled them (obviously!) and was amazed at how much work must have gone into ensuring the details were accurate. Delving into Japanese lore must have taken a while, and that’s before starting to write the book itself! I really enjoyed how the characters were voiced by the narrator, in my view, every character should have their own voice and that is exactly how Kassie has done it. Usually it takes me a while to get used to a narrators voice, but with Kassie, I was swept straight into the story.
