Summary
When Killian Barth, history professor, meets Blaine Genneau, quantum physicist, they ignite their own big bang. But Killian can't pursue a physics professor-or a human. As the most powerful male witch in ten generations, Killian must bolster his dying race by reproducing-despite the fact that he's gay.

Even a fling with Blaine is out of the question, because Killian has been told sex with humans drains his power. But if that's true, why can young human Jimmy Janx dissolve spoons with the power of his mind? If Killian can sort through the lies he's been fed, he'll still face his biggest obstacle-convincing rational scientist Blaine to believe in magic.

With his ancient and powerful cat familiar, Aloysius, on his shoulder, Killian brings the lightning against deceit and greed to save Blaine from danger and prove love is the greatest power of them all.

I absolutely loved listening to this one. Kirt Graves performed a compelling and enthralling audio delivery. Aloysius stole the show with all his Feline Grace. Killian was strong and determined and I liked his spirit. I'm looking forward to listening to the rest of the books in this series.

It was folksy, witchy, funny at times and charming. This book reminds me greatly of the movie “bewitched”. It’s not completely related by at times, how Killian tries to fit into the society and try to conform his witch ways greatly remind me of Samantha the witch, Anyhow, long story short, Killian has been taught that he can’t have sex with humans because that would make him lose his great powers. Also he’s gay but has the duty to mate with a female witch to produce a witch genius progeny. But our Killian is interested in tapping that shy, geeky little physics professor Blaine. So family? Familiar? Or love? Like it said, it was folksy, magical and charming. I loved Killian’s familiar Aloysius. That’s one very zazzy cat. Loved the narration of Kirt Graves. He rocks. 4 Meow, love me? Meow stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Audio rating Story - 3.75 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Enjoyed listening to Kirt Graves weaving his own spell narrating this fantastic story his voice held me enthralled throughout the entire story. Although predominantly a M/M love story between Killian a Professor of history and master witch and Blaine a professor of quantum physics, it also has a M/F romance happening throughout as well. Fantastic story with lots of twists but a HEA.

Tara Lain is fast becoming a one click author for me and this book continues the run of winners. It has a university setting, romance between two professors - one of them a witch, a great cat familiar, political machinations and lies that work against our two MCs getting their HEA and some hot romance scenes. I found this world intriguing and will be back for more in the series. Kirt Graves as always gives an amazing performance here. His voicings are spot on for the characters and he captures all the emotions perfectly.

Spell Cat (audiobook) MMy Thoughts and Confessions: If you think arranged marriages in modern New York, my friends, you have another think coming. At least among the witch community, who wish to keep their strongest male and strongest female witches born in generations together. Unfortunately for the bridegroom and witch master, Killian, he is gay. What is also unfortunate for the gorgeous and history professor is that he has fallen for a very delectable physics professor who most unfortunately was born human. This meant no matter how much chemistry the two men might have between them, if they were to act on their emotions, the result would prove catastrophic for the Witch-Master. This series has been around for a while, but I am so glad it is getting a re-boot of sorts. I for one might have missed out on all the wicked witchery and to just what lengths a familiar might go to see a Happily Ever After achieved. Lain also included the side story of the bride-to-be and meshed it quite well with the main plot. I adored all the secondary characters and Aloysius ABSOLUTELY stole the show! Hats off to Kirt Graves, for the magic that helped give the characters life through his narration. Excellent job! Looking forward to the next book in the series! The Story: 4.5

This is a great new start to a new series!! Killian is witch and history professor and Blaine is a physic professor and human! Killian has been taught that witch and humans don’t combine, it will drain their power. But the have an instant attraction to one another. Loved the familiar, Aloysius. Kirt Graves did a fantastic job with the narration!

Magic and intrigue! I really enjoyed this story and world. The characters were colourful and wonderful and the overarching "twist" kept me hooked. It had a bit of a mafioso vibe with the watching, following and the Russian but no one can beat the Witch Master! Killian and Blaine were great together and while I could feel their spark and insta love, their passion fell a little short (and somewhat "manufactured") but the emotions allowed me to breeze past this and still enjoy this unique tale!! I look forward to the next one!

This book is the beginning of a magical series! The story has many aspects that made me to read it in one sitting, starting by Aloysius, the amazing love story, following with an interesting plot that involved discrimination, intrigue, betrayal and powerhungry villains causing havoc. Of course also we got a lot of love and romance, friendship, sacrifice, acceptance and a wonderful ending, all narrated in the smooth and charismatic voice of Mr Graves. As always his performance is fluid and skillful really bringing the characters alive with his management of the interactions between them and their emotions. After enjoying so much the ebook version, the audiobook is a wonderful medium to reread it as many times as I like. So good!

I found myself enjoying every moment of this book. Killian and Blaine have an enjoyable dynamic. Aloysius steals the show most definitely and brings such a level of sass and whimsy that I have not found in other books. Graves narration brings these characters to life and truly should not be missed.

Really loved this book. It did take me a while to get into it because there was a lot going on and to follow but once I got that figured out I was good to go. Thought the story was both funny and interesting. The main characters were great and had great chemistry. The intimate scenes seemed a bit insta live but didn’t bother me too much. The cat is fantastic! Of course Kirt Graves knocks the narration out of the park.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. It did take me some time and a few speed adjustments to settle into the story and narration, but once I did, all was smooth sailing. There is both great action and a tangible connection in the love story. I'm going to move to the next book. I'd recommend.

I enjoyed the eBook when I read it, and I love the audiobook with narration by Kirt Graves even more! This is a fun and entertaining story with an interesting premise. Gay master witch Killian is arranged to wed a female witch despite his inclinations. In fact, neither of them is interested in the match. Killian loves a human, but even a fling is a no-no because of a belief that sexual relations with humans drain magic. Is it true, though? I liked Killian and Blaine, and their chemistry (no pun intended) was HOT. There are a few surprises in the story, secrets, a bit of intrigue, and a fun and very powerful cat familiar. I especially loved Killian's internal talk and his 'conversations' with Aloysius. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Killian, a history professor has a secret. He’s a powerful witch. Enter Blaine another professor but he is a human. Killian has been told all of his life that witches can’t have sex with humans. That is would deplete their magic. There is an attraction between the 2 men. But Killian can’t act on it. Also, his mother has arranged a marriage for Killian. He is to wed another witch, Lavender. They will have very powerful children. Lavender is in love with a human, Billy who is a student of Killian’s. Time is running out for Killian and Lavender. In the meantime Killian is having a hard time fighting his attract to Blaine. They enjoy spending time together. Killian is too afraid that he will lose his magic. Lavender and Killian decide they need to test the theory about having sex with humans. And they need to do this before they are forced to get married. One of the best things about this book is Al the cat. He is Killian’s familiar. And he knows what is best for Killian. Kirt Graves does a great job with the narration! I love his voice.

I liked this book. I wanted to like it so much, but it fell a bit flat. I’m not even sure what would have made it better. I did connect to the characters and loved Blaine a ton. Lillian was a bit whiny at times and it was off putting for who he was. Al was awesome and I’m a huge sucker for cats so there’s that. I am also not a huge fan of on the page for sure but any romantic activities outside of the MCs, so that did not help. I understood it, but ya left a bad taste in my mouth. I did fine the change of perspectives to be a bit forced at some points too. Things I loved: Al, Blaine, Jimmy - they really made this book. Jimmy and Al being side characters and they shined so bright. I was so happy that Blaine and Killian got their HEA and the ending was so sweet. I’m happy for Jimmy’s HEA as well. And skirt Graves on the audio was fantastic. One of my favorite narrators. He definitely kept me entertained. ARC provided by GRR in exchange for an honest review.

When I realized that Tara Lain was going for multiple POV I thought it could become confusing, but it turned out to work out very well! Kirt Graves did an excellent job keeping the characters apart, and I especially enjoyed the inner monologues of Killian! I had a great time listening, heartily recommend!
