Summary
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker must stem the tide of the raging Clone Wars and forge a new bond as Jedi Knights in a high-stakes adventure set just after the events of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones.

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: USA Today

The Clone Wars have begun. Battle lines are being drawn throughout the galaxy. With every world that joins the Separatists, the peace guarded by the Jedi Order is slipping through their fingers.

After an explosion devastates Cato Neimoidia, the jewel of the Trade Federation, the Republic is blamed and the fragile neutrality of the planet is threatened. The Jedi dispatch Obi-Wan Kenobi, one of the Order’s most gifted diplomatic minds, to investigate the crime and maintain the balance that has begun to dangerously shift. As Obi-Wan investigates with the help of a heroic Neimoidian guard, he finds himself working against the Separatists who hope to draw the planet into their conspiracy—and senses the sinister hand of Asajj Ventress in the mists that cloak the planet.

Amid the brewing chaos, Anakin Skywalker rises to the rank of Jedi Knight. Despite the mandate that Obi-Wan travel alone—and his former master’s insistence that he listen this time—Anakin’s headstrong determination means nothing can stop him from crashing the party, and bringing along a promising but conflicted youngling.

Once a Padawan to Obi-Wan, Anakin now finds himself on equal—but uncertain—footing with the man who raised him. The lingering friction between them increases the danger for everyone around them. The two knights must learn a new way to work together—and they must learn quickly, to save Cato Neimoidia and its people from the fires of war. To overcome the threat they face they must grow beyond master and apprentice. They must stand together as brothers.

It fit surprisingly well into the Star Wars I knew as a kid watching attack of the clones and started moving toward the canon TCW series but never got lost in it. Narrator did an excellent job and the audio effects thankfully never drowned out the story or the narrator thus enhancing the moments that didn’t need it but definitely benefited from it. The final scene feels earned in every way and is so satisfying for fans of Anikin and Obi-Wan dynamic. It does make a passing reference to Jedi Fallen Order in a smooth but not over the top way which is pleasant. It references Master and Apprentice in justifying Obi-Wan’s growth and reflection of his master, particularly bringing value to another great story. It heavily references Attack of the Clones because it picks up about a month after the movie and its impact isn’t lost on the characters. The only thing I didn’t like was a plot element that could carry on in a sequel to this book which I hope one day happens. Battles of hope would work for me as a title. It’s a story for my inner child and he loves it. 5 stars no compromise.

pretty good story, though at some times it was a bit basic/bland in my opinion. i like mill alibeth but it’s kind of sad to know that her connection had no real impact on anakin. both ruug and mill were great characters, and i think ketar was too in his own way. the ruug ketar and obi-wan anakin parallel was good. i think if anything there was a little too much character reflection because though we all know those moments did need to happen, them being present in this book contradicts that the characters did not correct their behaviors in the future… but that’s just me

Jonathan Davis was great as usual. The novel was sub-par. It often felt like it was simply trying to tie in as many references to other Star Wars stories as it could. In the end the story doesn't stand out in its own right.

I really enjoy exploring the early Anakin Jedi Knight years before the war started opening him up to the dark sides choices more and more. Very good story also highlighting the master apprentice bond Obi Wan had with him and his own processing of their growth together. Very good story.

I don\'t know what\'s going on with the Star Wars books, but they\'re getting worse and worse. 1) I salute Jonathan Davis (a complete professional)..but you can\'t fix a car without a car to start with. Bad story and bad writing..The characters were good (Ventress, Obi-Wan, Anakin, etc)..But this \"author\" doesn\'t know how to set a scene, write a story, and I DOUBT that this gentleman has ANY Star Wars knowledge at all..(it reminds me of the idiot that said that Omega Supreme \"Transformers\" was Vector Sigma)..I haven\'t enjoyed the last few books that Random House had been putting out..EXECPT THE THRAWN SERIES..(I actually enjoyed those)..if you need Jonathan\'s voice to put you to sleep, wait for YouTube to put this up for free..other than that? TERRIBLE..(and I blame the author..not Jonathan Davis).
