Unabridged Audiobook
Played the game... audiobook gives more depth to the story. Not comparing to the quality level to those of "Path of destruction / Rule of two / Dynasty of evil", but a very good book indeed. Better than "Omen" for sure.
I'm not even sure why this book exists. It feels like a reset button on the first book with the same basic character arc. A force user trained by Darth Vader struggles (not really) with his alignment to the Force and gradually emerges as a hero. At times, the video game origins reveal themselves whenever Starkiller is facing off against a character that is clearly an end-level boss. There are some cool cameos, but the revelation that Starkiller is a clone (and probably was in the first book, as well) leads to a fairly predictable scenario that also feels like a scene out of a video game. In fact, I bet you too can predict what it is merely by reading this. Again, Starkiller is just too powerful in a Star Wars story that takes place just before the introduction of Luke Skywalker. The strengths from the first book also carry over, in that I never feel lost or overwhelmed by exotic names and locations. You'll never encounter anything in this book that will have you racing to Wookieepedia. But at the same time, it just doesn't feel like this character earns anything. He's way too strong and even resists the temptations from the Dark Side of the Force like it's nothing. This would be like having a character who is unaffected by the One Ring for no apparent reason other than power fantasy BS.
Great book and I love Jonathan Davis as the Narrator.
Jonathan Davis does an excellent job here, and I'm not just saying that because I'm also a fan of Korn. His voice is just a perfect fit!
Played the game, book adds in details that get missed. A very good book to listen to, main character is very interesting!
