Subcutaneous: Psychological Thriller – Horror – Speculative Fiction

Something is wrong beneath the skin.

Clara is a mortuary makeup artist—someone who understands the language of the dead better than the living. Skin, temperature, texture… these things don’t lie.

So when her husband begins to change, she notices.

He doesn’t sweat.

His body temperature stays too stable.

His reactions come a fraction too late.

At first, it could be stress. Fatigue. Or worse—her diagnosis: Capgras syndrome, a condition that makes her believe loved ones have been replaced by perfect impostors.

But Clara doesn’t trust her mind.

She trusts her hands.

As the anomalies spread beyond her husband to the entire neighborhood, Clara begins a series of increasingly disturbing tests—cutting, burning, observing—searching for one undeniable truth:

Is she losing her grip on reality…

Or is something beneath the skin learning how to imitate being human?

Subcutaneous is a slow-burn psychological thriller infused with body horror and speculative tension—perfect for readers who enjoy unsettling domestic suspense, identity horror, and chilling explorations of perception versus reality.
