Unabridged Audiobook
I loved the Willdreness Series and The Golden Hour series so this was nice bridge between the two
Sara Donati and Kate Reading are, again, an unparalleled pleasure to listen to. In-depth story lines, phenomenal narration and perfectly researched details make these gloriously long epics a pleasure to listen to/read! I’m always sad when the last page is over and wait patiently until the next book in the series.
DNF. Though listened for close to 20 hours. It just drug on for too long. I simply didn’t care anymore. I loved every book in the wilderness series. But this was different. Too tedious. Disappointed. Seemed like author was attempting to make a statement rather than tell a story. Won’t try her others after this.
Such a beautiful story. Love reading more about the Bonners and their extended families! I am so glad Sara Donatj released another book
I wasn’t sure at first however, the author goes into great detail and sets every scene so could imagine life trials, tribulations, situations and scenery. Thoroughly enjoyed the story line and the narrator guiding through it
Too slow
Slow in the beginning and major plot lines were interrupted that I found distracting from the story
great story
I enjoyed the descriptions of each leg of her journey and the detail provided. The description of Santa Fe and its people of that era is great. And I loved the gradual pace of the love story between Eli and Carrie.
It was with concerted effort that I was able to adjust to the narrator's rising intonation towards the end of most sentences, as if she were asking a question. Perhaps I had grown used to the sound of the Wilderness Series narrator. I feel like this narrator's interpretation detracted from the book itself.
I had no idea that this was part of a series. This book was so good. The characters were wonderful, the history was accurate and informative and the story was great. If you want to listen to a book that makes you feel like you are there this is one for you. As a nurse I enjoyed the medical cases, as a history buff I loved learning about history of the New Mexico territory. The main character is a true pioneer of her time and the story is presented in a way that makes you feel like you are there. Love this book, and have already started another one by this author.
I can’t tell if I didn’t like the book or the narrator reading this book. Her tone is way too stilted and over enunciated to match the conversation. It made any human interaction seem forced and uncomfortable. The book may have merit but most of the interesting story lines are abbreviated by weird details. The narrator’s inability to do a man’s voice makes all male characters unlikable.
Excellent historical novel, having just visited Santa Fe and Taos… and very descriptive writing that gave a true feel for the time period and geography . For me, I did finish it, but felt it was too long.
The storyline kept me interested throughout. The slow pace of the book and the narrators calm voice made it feel more authentic, as if it were actually written in that period.
