Unabridged Audiobook
Absolutely loved it. I finished Taiwan Travelogue this morning, and learning more about Yáng Shuāng zǐ made it even more moving. She and her twin sister grew up writing what we'd now call fan fiction inspired by Japanese and Taiwanese manga. Her sister later became a historian before she passed away. Yáng Shuāng zǐ chose her pen name, meaning “twins,” to honor her, and suddenly the novel's quiet, enduring sisterhood feels even more poignant.
A most interesting tale about friendship, power, and being a woman in 1930s Taiwan, with layers of complex relationship dynamic that left me thinking about it for weeks.
