This Gay classic features loveable characters, depicts an era that many recall fondly, and evokes an optimistic attitude that seems to have faded in more recent times. The tale is episodic and a bit pointillist; each segment can stand on its own but taken together a bigger, more in-depth, and possibly more important picture is formed. The narrator does a good job of relating the material, giving each character a distinct enough sound so as to keep the different voices from being muddled together while not going into the full-on attempts at "voice acting" that can ruin some audiobook adaptations.

Have already read the first few of this series and love the characters. Not sure about the narration, it seemed lackluster to me.

There was nothing going on to keep me going. I think this a rare case where the tv mini series is probably better than reading the book. Although I have not seen it.
