Lisa's mother is sick and dying. Left alone, Lisa discovers a broken music box that was deliberately lost for her on a bench outside her house. When she takes it, she is transported to a magical world where she is confronted by a giant grasshopper monster in a striped frock coat who wants to consume her and the magic box. Protected by magical allies, Lisa travels across That World meeting a collection of fantastical beings as she uncovers the secret of the music box and learns what she must do to save the world...and her mother. Can she fix the music box in time to save her mother? What will she and her new friends do about the monster that wants to destroy That World and escape into our world? And how will she respond when she's asked to make an impossible choice?

Tales of the Wandering Mists is a fairy tale story about a girl from This World whose journey on a wildly fantastic adventure in a different world helps her discover her own inner strength. It's a story about the fearlessness of love and about how the precious inner child in us all needs to be protected and can save us even though the world will inevitably, tragically, force it to grow up. This story will encourage you to believe in miracles and to stand up for the greater good no matter how terrifying the circumstances you face seem to be.

Oleg Veretskiy is a Ukrainian author, educator, veteran, and child advocate. He wrote this first part of his first trilogy before the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and has finished it from the front lines as a voluntary brother in arms.
