Unabridged Audiobook
This story is phenomenal. It is so well written and so well crafted; it just blows the mind. Bottom line: Clare Ashton is a storytelling genius and The Tell Tale is a literary marvel. It is stunning and should not be missed. Even though I had already devoured the book, I still found myself on the edge of my seat with the audio version. Rayner makes the storytelling a real experience, providing color and dimension that’s beyond gripping. Her phenomenal contribution makes this audiobook seem like an old time radio production. One can clearly see why she’s an award-winning British actress. With her rich voice and perfect inflection, she elevates The Tell Tale to something that I’m quite sure even Ashton couldn’t have imagined. Strengths… Stunning Captivating Phenomenal
As usual, when I review an audiobook after reading the book, I reread my initial review before writing this one (you can read it on my blog: https://tiny.one/324fhhnx). Good news, I still agree with what I wrote then, which isn’t much of a surprise since I adored this book. The atmosphere, the character development, the mystery, the twists, everything is as I remembered, clever and brilliant and, it seemed to me, even more so in audio. This was my first narration by Lucy Rayner and I needed a couple of chapters to get used to the lilt in her narrator voice, but once that happened, I loved everything: the voices, the variety of accents and mannerisms, the pace. Everything felt “more” but never too much, which is precisely what I hope for when listening to the audiobook of a book I’ve read and loved.
