Terminal World

Story ends with almost no reveals. Like it was written for a book 2 like everything else now days and it wasn’t good enough to make another. Whatever the author had in mind with this whole story, I guess we’ll never know

Alastair Reynolds's best work is reminiscent of Iain M. Banks, but this book is reminiscent of Philip Jose Farmer.

The book has a nice plot line and there is a depth in the descriptions of the wolrd. The big problem is the truncated ending. Way too may lose ends with no plans for a follow up. Disappointing!

I read these with the idea of being entertained and stimulated. I do agree with Matthew D. that it is reminiscent of Ian Banks. I like Farmer, he is talented but not a writer in the class of Reynolds. That being said, read All of these wonderful authors ! Even if you rate one of them mediocre to the others that one is still some of the best that you will ever read!

This book was a fun ride with many characters. I have a couple of complaints. The book never fleshed out what cataclysmic event caused the current state of the world. I guess to leave it open for more books, but online I see that this is a stand alone novel. That brings me to my major gripe. If this is a stand alone book, then why not give some sort of closure. It left so many unanswered questions and such a cliffhanger that I may not listen to anymore of the authors books (Unless he writes a second book with some conclusions to this story in it). Needless to say it made me so angry the expletive's were flying. I would have given it 5 stares if it had any resemblance of closure.

Ambitious in size and scale, but I don't feel it truly delivered what it promised. Intriguing but unsatisfying.

Terminal World is a solid sci-fi adventure novel with a really interesting central conceit. I'd recommend it.

Quirky and great fun.
