It was a bit slow going especially in the beginning stages. I did enjoy how it alluded to some historical events inclusive of our ancestral women’s rights issues that allowed the characters to come to life. I have enjoyed previous works of Lisa Wingate that have more substance which this book lacks but a light and enjoyable story to listen to.

After listening to Before We Were Yours, I assumed Lisa Wingate wrote books with some depth. I didn't realize she is a romance story writer. I am not a fan of that genre so I guess it really isn't fair no criticize a book about a thirty-something year old woman who has the emotional maturity of a 13 year old girl. The narrator could have made a few phone calls and found out how to pronounce the names of the towns in Texas. Not a fan, but lesson learned.
