From the author of My Oxford Year, Julia Whelan’s uplifting novel tells the story of a former actress turned successful audiobook narrator—who has lost sight of her dreams after a tragic accident—and her journey of self-discovery, love, and acceptance when she agrees to narrate one last romance novel.

For Sewanee Chester, being an audiobook narrator is a long way from her old dreams, but the days of being a star on film sets are long behind her. She’s found success and satisfaction from the inside of a sound booth and it allows her to care for her beloved, ailing grandmother. When she arrives in Las Vegas last-minute for a book convention, Sewanee unexpectedly spends a whirlwind night with a charming stranger.

On her return home, Sewanee discovers one of the world’s most beloved romance novelists wanted her to perform her last book—with Brock McNight, the industry’s hottest, most secretive voice. Sewanee doesn’t buy what romance novels are selling—not after her own dreams were tragically cut short—and she stopped narrating them years ago. But her admiration of the late author, and the opportunity to get her grandmother more help, makes her decision for her.

As Sewanee begins work on the book, resurrecting her old romance pseudonym, she and Brock forge a real connection, hidden behind the comfort of anonymity. Soon, she is dreaming again, but secrets are revealed, and the realities of life come crashing down around her once more.

If she can learn to risk everything for desires she has long buried, she will discover a world of intimacy and acceptance she never believed would be hers.

Loved this book! So satisfying, playing light and fun with the romance tropes while also offering real substance. It’s like eating a healthy meal that is also finger-licking good — delicious and satisfying in every way! And as always with Julia Whelan, the narration is amazing. My only complaint: now that it’s over, I don’t know how I’ll find something this good to listen to next!

I was impressed, I know Julia Whelan as a narrator only. I enjoyed the story line a lot and found it funny! I’m going to now check out her other book .

Loved it!

This book was so fun to listen to. I laughed (alot) and cried (a little). Such a different take on a “romance” book.

That was a great way to spend eleven hours. The story was everything you want a romance to be without any unnecessary sappiness. It was modern and funny and clever... its words as much fun as the story. And of course, I would listen to anything narrated by Julia Whelan; she did not disappoint!

Very entertaining and kept my attention. The main characters were not perfect and had flaws they overcame. Great narration as usual from Julia Whelan- pretty good writing, too.

Overall I loved this book. I am a HUGE fan of the narrator, it is difficult to find a narrator that does so many voices so effortlessly! If you like fantasy you MUST listen to Julia read The Black Witch Series it is outstanding! As for romance, this book is so great! Whitty, fun characters. The only reason it is not getting 5 stars is because the main characters needed more steamy scenes. Or LEAST the ONE they have to have some better description. I was really left wanting more lovin'!!! Or "page sex" as it so eloquently described! haha! Nick is an outstanding character and that Irish accent just melted my heart!
