Summary
This is the final book in C. S. Lewis’s acclaimed Ransom Trilogy, which includes Out of the Silent Planet and Perelandra. A classic work of fantasy as much for the wonder of its storytelling as for its insights into the human condition, the trilogy stages an epic battle between forces of light and darkness across a canvas of other worlds.

In That Hideous Strength, the brave philologist Dr. Ransom (modeled after Lewis’s friend J. R. R. Tolkien) finds himself in a world of superior alien beings and scientific experiments run amok. There is a rumor that the powerful wizard Merlin has returned to the world of the living, and a sinister technocratic organization plans to use his power in their plot to “recondition” society. Ransom’s fight for moral wisdom in a brave new universe dominated by science is a quest filled with intrigue and suspense.

CS Lewis again knocks it out of the park. A worthy sequel to the other books in the space trilogy but as dissimilar as books in a series can be. His villains are frightening and complex, deep, creative, and profound. The story has surprising twists and carries on at a brisk pace. Whether you're a thinker or you're just in it for a fun story, I would recommend this book.

I\'m going to try and start this review without spoilers to the best of my ability. \r\nThis story is very much a continuation and finale to the Space Trilogy. It might have a slow start but it very much delivers on an ending. New characters are introduced and the narrator brings them to life in spectacular fashion. So much of this book is quotable, so be sure to have the bookmark button ready. If you liked the other two entries in the series, I HIGHLY recommend That Hideous Strength. \r\nFirst things first, if you were wondering if the subtext would continue for the Christian ideas, this story takes it one step further and makes the subtext into text. That is not a bad thing at all. It shows some of how Lewis\' faith worked, and the story is all the better for it in my view.\r\nSecond, Lewis did a WONDERFUL job building up a villainous organization, that I could not tell if he knew people like the characters he was writing with how fleshed out they were.\r\nThird, we don\'t see the main protagonist for some time, and when we do, we don\'t recognize him immediately, and I think that makes the story all the more amazing. \r\nIf you read nothing else, this story feels timeless and it\'s message is wholesome. For any young Christian entering into Science Fiction, I highly recommend it. If you have read The Imaginarium Geography series, this is ABSOLUTELY a wonderful companion piece. If you want a sci-fi story that fits alongside the Chronicles of Narnia, then here is another reason to read this book. \r\nI hope you enjoy it even half as much as I did.

Written in 1945, this is a prophetic book that looks forward to our contemporary 2026. Geoffrey Howard reads it quite well with different British accents and a convincing Irish accent for Mr. MacPhee. This third book of the RANSOM (not SPACE) TRILOGY indicates how the evolving imagination of C. S. Lewis could come up the Chronicles of Narnia. He was a genius scholar and writer.
