Summary
Grey's story of the struggles to build the Union Pacific Railroad in the late 1860's. Typical western characters, but placed in a factual setting. His first real attempt at historical fiction. The heroes must battle the human challenges of greed, ruthlessness, and ambition, as well as the tremendous challenges of nature, to make the rail connection between East and West. I'd put this book up against anything Grey has written. It's a great story with quite a few twists and turns. The narrator is very good and I'd really like to give him 5 stars except that the sound quality is horrendous. That's my one criticism of this story. He does a fine job of putting life into the characters but at times is very hard to hear

So hard to hear. reader sounds like he is mumbling into a barrel sometimes and yelling at others.

wonderful! I would have given narrator 5 stars if I did not have to strain so hard to hear him. was recorded on low and he had a softer voice. also there were places were the recording device could be heard.

This was a Zane Grey story I'd never heard before. The story of the Railroad was so interesting as were the characters involved with its construction; the obstacles they faced, the displacement of the Native Americans and the love story woven through it had me completely drawn in! The narration was just excellent and Bob R. brought the story to life. I will definitely listen to this well told tale again!
