This is a long book, but worth it if you pace yourself. Reminded me of How the West Was Won in depth and the importance of the subject. The Thundering Herd is the story of the Buffalo and how big a story this was. Great story lines woven throughout the book. It's not the history of the Buffalo. It's the history of the American West and all its peoples during the final seasons of the Buffalo.
