Unabridged Audiobook
This book was fantastic and had one of the best narrators I’ve experienced!
Twists and turns as you would expect from a crime novel . Also very moving at times. Lesley manville as the narrator was perfect.
Scrumptious!!!!
Loved it
Excellent book and I really enjoyed the movie as well a pleasure to listen to
Absolutely loved it!!! And the narrator is wonderful.
I have a physical copy of this book, buy listening to it on Audiobook really brought the characters to life. I think there was a bit too many characters to remember so at times I'd be a bit confused about what was happening or who was who, but otherwise, it was a cozy read
Brilliant!! Full of twists and turns!! Also had some parts that made me literally laugh out loud. Would highly recommend
excellent story well read
Sorry but I just couldn't get into this. I persevered for a good third of the book but I just found it overall dull and somewhat irritating and eventually gave up.
I did not think I would like this book. But I was addicted after just a few chapters. The characters are brilliant you laugh and cry along with the gang. Loads of twists and turns. Highly recommend for people who love a good story with loveable characters!!!
Great story, lots of suspense and a satisfying ending. Only thing I didn’t like was it was a bit slow starting so almost didn’t persevere with it, but I’m glad I did now. Definitely gets better as it gets further in.
great great great great
Love this book - so witty, lots of moments where you find yourself smiling at Joyce and her antics. Brilliant storyline and the narrator is just fantastic!
Great love miss marple and anything Agatha christy
Loved it. It would make a great TV series.
loved the Quirky nature!
This book is such a good read. You feel like you’re living it… listening to Joyce’s natter, Ron’s bluster and Ebrahim’s thought-through responses. There’s a crime, a twist and someone falling in love.
I have come late to the party however I think that may be to my benefit as there is already another two books in the series! I loved this so much I have gone onto the next book already (which I never normal do). The characters are delightful, the humour is cute, and the narrator is perfect. All in all one of the best I have listened to for a long time!
It was a cozy story with interesting twists. Although there are charming characters they become to many to keep up with, in the end the relationships are less developed.
It’s a good book, with drive and good language. Liked all the subplots as well
I love a good mystery story! Especially involving old people
Couldn’t stop listening great book full of twists and turns and great characters
Very boring
Beautifully read Weak story and I didn’t care about any of the characters Perfect to go to sleep with
Loved it from beginning to end. The twists throughout the book kept me saying, just one more chapter. Very interesting listening to the author chat at the end.
Loved everything about the book - the characters, the setting and the plot. Can't wait to read the next one
Fantastic book. I'm 74 and I can identify so well with these wonderful and beautifully developed characters. This book is funny and sad and wise and un-put-downable - it's so real, so complicated, so gentle and compassionate and believable. I think older people should tell their stories more... to each other and to their children. I really do. I probably won't... because we all have reasons for not doing so. So read it... really.
Brilliant plot, characters you really want to know
Wonderful. Will make fantastic tv. Judi dench and Brenda blethyn for Elizabeth and Joyce please. Can't wait for next book.
It’s a great idea but takes so long to get going. I like my audiobooks to be straightforward as I listen when driving - Osman goes overboard with various plot lines and 20 characters to get to grips with. By his own admission in the interview at the end he did not decide who the murderer was until he was half way through writing it and, to be honest, it showed. The first half lacked pace, the second was better. Sure, there are great moments and some cover turns of phrase, but I really couldn’t see what all the fuss was about. Fame certainly has helped as I doubt this book would get the hype it has without the author being a household name. May give the sequel a go but hope it’ll be an easier listen.
Smart and original, want to move into this retirement center and friend this cast!
This was an outstanding book & I was really sorry it came to an end. I loved the different characters. I really can't wait for the next book. Definitely one to recommend. The narrator was perfect.
Wonderful novel by Richard Osman, looking forward to the next installment. The narrator captures Joyce wonderfully.
Fantastic read with a gentle comedy running throughout. Narrator excellent, the cherry on top of an already delicious cake.
Monotonous I prefer paper books
Wonderful characterisations and great plot. Fun escape if you have time. However, it felt a little too much like spending a long time with my favourite Granny. It went round and round the garden, followed by a cup of tea and cake. I just wasn't in the mood for that. Can understand why others love it.
The narration was fine but it brought out the ‘knowing’ and ‘cleverness’ of the story. I can’t decide if the reading reveals the slightness of the written characters or their ‘stockness’ made it inevitable.
I read and then listened to this book. I really enjoyed it. Lots of different characters. My only negative is the you really needed to listen carefully to the plot otherwise it lost it's thread. But looking forward to the next one.
I quite enjoyed this book, admittedly its not my usual go to but enjoyable all the same. the characters are good & well developed. the story plays out well if not a little twisty & turny at points. It's easy to get a bit lost if you dont pay attention. enjoyable over all.
I absolutely loved it, laughing out loud at some points enjoying the humour. Looking forward to the next one.
Overall a pretty decent book. At times, the story and, consequently, the narrator sounded and felt a little bit bored. Short chapters, but so many of them. A good story though and one that had an originality about it.
I found this story very heavily character based but a little thin on plot . If you like character based books this is for you unfortunately not for me .Richard Osman sense of humour comes through from time to time so this helped a little
A Joy from chapter one to the end. Wonderfully narrated with a suitable voice for each character. Storylines were skillfully interwoven and the pace never faltered. A brilliant read. I can't wait for the next book to appear and have put Richard Osman on my 'follow' list.
Absolutely brilliant
I had to start this book twice. You need to concentrate at the beginning or you will be lost!Once you get going though it takes off and is a great mystery/crime novel. The narrator is excellent; one of the best I’ve had the pleasure to listen to. You will love the characters and I am now looking forward to Book 2 of the Thursday Murder Club.
This is a very engaging read ... ahem listen. Lesley Manville is marvellous as the narrator. The characters are believable and I actually really enjoyed being in their company. I miss them now that I’ve finished it and can’t wait for the second book.
