'ONE OF THE GREATEST AMERICAN NOVELS EVER WRITTEN'

'Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.'

A lawyer's advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic novel - a black man falsely charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with exuberant humour the irrationality of adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina of one man's struggle for justice. But the weight of history will only tolerate so much.

To Kill a Mockingbird is a coming-of-age story, an anti-racist novel, a historical drama of the Great Depression and a sublime example of the Southern writing tradition.

The start of the book was somewhat slow, I even paused listening for a while but as I restarted I could not stop listening as the story started developing and culminating. A beautiful tale of childhood memories reflecting fairness, inequalities, and humanity.

English is not my first language, so I thought I might struggle with this book. I'm so glad I gave it a try. Once I got into it I was looking forward to the evenings when I could continue listening. Wonderfully written book with captivating characters, who stay with the reader for a long time even after finishing the book. I've found the narration superb. The Southern accent made the experience even better.

Great to listen to an old classic which I have never had the chance to read. Narrated beautifully by Sissy in an authentic Southern accent to compliment the characters, era and the narrative.

A spellbinding journey. Sissy is spot on with accents and voices and pacing. May we all have a little of Scout and a little of Atticus in us.

It's okay. I found it hard to follow the book because of the accent, but that's just me.

Sissy Spacek makes this classic story even better. She is masterful at the southern drawl and makes the subtleties of this novel come alive. I highly recommend this version!
