Summary
In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security, and social fabric.

Mary Trump spent much of her childhood in her grandparents’ large, imposing house in the heart of Queens, New York, where Donald and his four siblings grew up. She describes a nightmare of traumas, destructive relationships, and a tragic combination of neglect and abuse. She explains how specific events and general family patterns created the damaged man who occupied the Oval Office, including the strange and harmful relationship between Fred Trump and his two oldest sons, Fred Jr. and Donald.

A firsthand witness to countless holiday meals and interactions, Mary brings an incisive wit and unexpected humor to sometimes grim, often confounding family events. She recounts in unsparing detail everything from her uncle Donald’s place in the family spotlight and Ivana’s penchant for regifting to her grandmother’s frequent injuries and illnesses and the appalling way Donald, Fred Trump’s favorite son, dismissed and derided him when he began to succumb to Alzheimer’s.

Numerous pundits, armchair psychologists, and journalists have sought to parse Donald J. Trump’s lethal flaws. Mary L. Trump has the education, insight, and intimate familiarity needed to reveal what makes Donald, and the rest of her clan, tick. She alone can recount this fascinating, unnerving saga, not just because of her insider’s perspective but also because she is the only Trump willing to tell the truth about one of the world’s most powerful and dysfunctional families.

Mary Trump's perspective through the eyes of a trained psychologist and family member explains in detail why the president makes such horrible. decisions, whines like a child, and is incapable of compassion, humility and honesty. Sad...

Two things about this book: First, everything that Mary describes in the book is consistent with what is on display every day in the White House so if you expect to hear something that would shock you in that respect you won't get it. 2) Tell all books can be written for various motives and can be a lot of hard to verify information but in this case, what needs to be verified can be and the things that may seem to require "trust" in the author can be assumed correct by things which are on record. For example, the ruthless, shallow, vengeful, greedy, dysfunctional family are verified by things like her grandfather's obituary. If she hadn't been mistreated and cheated of her inheritance, why was she left out of those listed in the surviving family section? It takes a special kind of petty person to not lost someone in their grandfather's obituary. Finally, I feel like I relate to Mary because I am the odd man out in a family very similar to the Trump family minus the money. Her writing does mot seem vengeful, but matter of fact and at time seems filled with more pity than hate. Her stated motive being that she feels a need to warn the country seems terribly credible.

So bad. 7 hours of a whining rich girl complaining about her family. Boring, annoying, and uninsightful.

Profile Avatar Stephanie D. Jul 2020

Exceptional firsthand insight into the psyche of the man who has hurt us all on some level. The world owes Mary applause for being so brave as to speak out to help enlighten us about the wannabe dictator who we couldn’t quite put our finger on because of the chaos he spreads like a nonstop current. Thank you, Mary. Well done.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2020

It all makes sense now...all of his shenanigans and poor choices. Thank you MsTrump for bringing all of this to light and helping us to understand why he is so unlikeable.

Profile Avatar Cheri S. Jul 2020

Honestly.. I loved this book. Mary Trump wrote exceptionally about her life, her family and used her knowledge in psychology to offer a new perspective into Donald Trump. I loathe the man but I must say that this book helped me to not hate him. I feel great sadness for the family he was born into, Mary’s fathers especially.

Profile Avatar Adam F. Nov 2020

Absolute garbage. You can tell it’s a personal ax to grind.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Sep 2020

I am no fan of Trump but this book was so boring and work to get through. It was overdramatic and whiny.

Profile Avatar Joe B. Aug 2020

I hated the book and it sounds like she had an axe to grind during the whole book and she thought this was a great time to write this book and try to hurt the President, but all she did was make a very poorly done book and makes her look very sad at the same time.

Profile Avatar Lisa S. Jul 2020

yes we knew most of the objective recent facts but what this book does more than anything else out there is ecplain in detail what makes DJT tick and just how hopelessly damaged and incapable of leading this great Nation he truly is. Thank you for writing it.

Profile Avatar John G Sep 2020

All the books I’ve listen too this book is the most outrageous of the them all, should be in the fiction category. I’m not a Trump supporter but it’s very obvious that Mary has an axe to grind toward Donald and the rest of the family. My take that most people in the Psychology field of work, has had personal mental issues them self. That is the reason they study it because they can relate to many issues. This is surely a case and point example.

Book is a complete aberration. It confirms in detail mostly things we already knew about Trump. Mary Trump claims Donald is terrible with money and he didn't become a self-made billionaire on his own... if indeed he is a billionaire. There is nothing new that we didnt already know.. No affirmations whatsoever about Trump. We say Trump is a racist... We say he is a Womanizer. We say horrible things about Trump but the books offer no incite into any of these allegations. There's nothing in this book that support any of these negative claims against Trump. I came away feeling that Mary Trump, a niece, is jealous of Donald Trump and wrote a book for personal gain without tarnishing the Trump family name. After all the US economy is/was doing well. Her biggest claim is Trump is terrible at managing money and doesn't know business. Good job Mary of wasting my time and providing the readers with nothing. By the way she even failed to mention Trump has a younger brother. Disappointed!!!

Profile Avatar Terri Z. Jul 2020

Really enjoyed the book, just wish it was longer. I wasn't ready for it to end! I am in constant disbelief that he is our president, and his behavior is rude and downright scary. The book validates that we aren’t crazy when we ask ourselves “what is WRONG with him”?. Mary Trump is a hero, good for her to speak out when others make excuses for him.

Profile Avatar Heather L. Jul 2020

Mary Trump is very brave to speak out against the biggest cult leader of our lifetime. We all know the hell she will go through as a result of Trump’s rabid fans. I sincerely appreciate her doing this and I hope it will help wake people up to the disaster our country has become, thanks to the Trumpublicans.

Profile Avatar Deanna M. Aug 2020

I was pleasantly pleased with this book. I have questioned for years how someone could end up with no moral compass like Donal Trump and this book really gives a great insite as to his upbringing, the expectations put on him, and the mental molding of him throughout his entire life. It doesnt make me like him but it did give me the understanding I was wanting. Mary, you did an amazing job on this book.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2020

Wow. The book confirmed thoughts based on observations.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2020

Loved this book. I couldn’t put it down once I started. She’s a wonderful writer. It gives you a real back ground of the tRump family.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Feb 2021

Sounds like Miss Trump has a jealousy of her cousin. Then again if she spots those things in him that generally means she has the same faults. ( If you spot it, you got it.) Overall I wouldn't recommend the book. But to each their own.

Profile Avatar April A. Aug 2020

This was a short read, but very well written. I liked the first hand account of these stories of a public family that is somehow still shrouded in mystery.

Profile Avatar Katherine B. Aug 2020

Very well written. We knew Trump is a dick. Confirms he takes after his daddy.

Profile Avatar Doug M. Aug 2020

Everyone should read this book!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2020

Highly recommend. Couldn't stop listening. So fascinating the thread of dysfunction in the family. Mary Trump wrote so clearly about her sick uncle. Her family was treated so horribly. She isn't bitter - just warning us about his dangerousness. We see how his development was delayed - which can be seen especially when explaining the cognitive test he took and explaining it like a child - trying to convince us of his acuity.

Good info enjoyed

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2020

Excellent book! Explains a lot about Trump and his erratic behavior.

Profile Avatar Fran S. Aug 2020

Exceptional and important. Yes, of course she has an agenda and is trying to make her case. It’s a legitimate case to make to the country, in that it ultimately affects many more of us than just Mary Trump.

Profile Avatar DrZaco Aug 2020

Well written and documented. It compliments “It’s Even Worse Than You Think” by David Cay Johnston and “Very Stable Genius” by Phillip Rucker and Carol Leonnig. Fred Trump created a hapless narcissistic sociopath who could never admit mistakes and understood lying and corruption as business strategies. One wonders about Fred Trump’s parents. Trump is a sick tragic figure.

Profile Avatar Ryneld C. Aug 2020

As a Queens native, resident and taxpayer...I’m so intrigued by this family! Mary Trump has put it all together for us! Excellent book! And much needed!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2020

Great book. Revealed many issues about how sick the President really is. She supplied the evidence that will put him in jail for long time. One thing you can’t do in this county is commit tax evasion. Al Cappuccino killed many people as the President has. But he will go to jail for falsifying his father’s tax records, according to the evidences in this book.

Profile Avatar Jen S. Jul 2020

Well done. Straightforward and smart. Facts without the drama. Thank you for the insight and honesty.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2020

Disturbing to know that this man was elected to the highest post in our nation! I hope our country knows all of Mary’s truths before the November 2020 election!!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2020

now im aware of what influenced the formation of orangeman -- answers the nurture vs nature question for me as The Author concluded fear and personality r major impedimedts to holding high office and this boring n Maniacal waste of flesh cant n wont change - what a horrible fact for him, family and our nation

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2020

Thanks for an in-depth look at a sad excuse of a leader. I hope this book will serve as a lesson of how our nation needs to pay attention to the importance of the power of our rights to vote and to peacefully demonstrate. This man’s behavior demands of all of us to vote him out of office this November with a large voter turnout and an electoral college win for Joe Biden. Listen to the voices of science, the voice of experts and disregard the person occupying the Oval Office. Look how he still can’t take responsibility, the way he can’t be empathetic and most of all isn’t capable of leading. Finally, thank you Mary Trump for writing this book and most of all loving your country more than your Uncle. This was an eye opener read.

Profile Avatar Lori S. Apr 2022

Profile Avatar jrb731 Mar 2021

Oh how I wish all of this was known by our country before the first election! Great and revealing book,

Profile Avatar Vincent B. Dec 2020

This is not a book about vengeance. It was much too tame to be considered that. I think this gives credibility to Mary. Everything that Mary describes in the book is what you see in Donald Trump on a daily basis so if you expect to hear something that would surprise or shock you. At first, I thought it went on too long about the Trump family and each others relationships with each other, their personalities, and so on and was not enough about Donald. But I remembered, the second half of the book title: "How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man". This book is about exactly that. It was not scathing by any means during most of the book-except the last chapter or two and the Epilogue-then, Mary lets loose, a climax worth waiting for. I do think here timing was purposeful in that she was trying to warn us, that Donald Trump can not be elected for a second term, that his ineptitude and the go-along-republicans who either tow the line or stand in silence, therefore enabling him, was danger to our democracy. I couldn't agree more.

Profile Avatar Mary T. Dec 2020

“Too Much - Never Enough” A fair analysis, based on the author living the story, as a close relative of Donald Trump. It is frightening that such an uninspiring, Hitleresque ego-maniac was “in-charge” for four years. Mary Trump writes in a way that makes it impossible not to binge-listen to her calm & convincing narration. Reads like a novel - sadly, though, it is a reality-based biography of a dysfunctional family called “Trump”.

Profile Avatar Mark Guilmet Dec 2020

Very informative. Gives great insight into Trump's extreme pathologies. Well done.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Oct 2020

This just confirms what we already knew... the man is a psychopath. Raised by one and groomed into a worse version of his father! What a despicable human being!

Profile Avatar Margaret L. Sep 2020

Excellent book.. It deepened my understanding of the background of our sociopathic president.

Profile Avatar Debbie J. Sep 2020

Wow, eye opening! Explains a lot about the horrible human being running our country.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Aug 2020

Can’t wait to see how this story will end!

Profile Avatar Lesley T. Aug 2020

Mary Trump's book about her Uncle, Too Much and Never Enough, is still haunting me. I wish I didn't know there were such callus and unscrupulous people in the world.

Profile Avatar Cheyenne F. Jul 2020

Mary is a fantastic writer and narrator. I couldn’t stop listening. I highly recommend!

I too feel sorry for the little boy named Donald. He was made to be an ugly person. But everything in the book explains everything we are witnessing now.

Profile Avatar Richey Nov 2024

I found the book interesting.

Profile Avatar Rosemarie S. May 2024

I think because Mary was left out of the wheel she was very bitter

Profile Avatar Anonymous Feb 2024

I didn’t connect with Mary-at all. She seems bitter and jaded, and jealous more than anything. I believe exactly none of what she says about Trump, by the way he is the only reason anyone has even read your book of lies. #trump2024

Profile Avatar Valerie P. Feb 2024

Glad I read the book but in general I was disappointed.

Profile Avatar TOM PIZOR Dec 2023

Fascinating how he was selected by his grandfather and others to receive preferential treatment, significantly above what was fair to his siblings. He went through life without any reprimands. He was rewarded whenever he failed. Though this is a true story, the author tells it well.

Profile Avatar Tiffany A. Aug 2023

I really don't believe the author is telling any truth to her stories

Profile Avatar Debra H. Aug 2021

Thought the book to be well written, well researched. Loved Mary L. Trumps narration. Found it easy to listen to and understand.

Profile Avatar Nancy B. Apr 2021

Interesting and it didn’t surprise me one bit.

Profile Avatar Julie G. Jan 2021

Interesting, but mostly about Freddy (Mary's father). & Fred (Mary's grandfather).

Profile Avatar Philip B. Jan 2021

Wow! Definitely an interesting book with lots of detail I never knew.

Profile Avatar Collette S. Jan 2021

Insightful and revealing as to why trump is the way he is. It’s hard to believe someone this damaged can continue to fail upwards for so long but he has always been “institutionalized” and enabled and once you understand that, the con comes into sharp focus. Too bad for the USA. He has done a lot of damage and it continues on through his children.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2020

Repetitive in some places but generally fascinating. I would recommend it.

Good insight.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2020

amazing stories of how The Trumps earlier years.

Profile Avatar Annette C. Nov 2020

I personally developed an intense hatred and disgust for Trump. I read the book to see if it was me or was there a really good reason to feel the way I do. Yes, there is good reason and yes, I still feel those intense feelings. I'm just thankful it's finally come to an end.

Profile Avatar Eilene W. Nov 2020

Excellent book. Her narration was great.

Profile Avatar KateinSD Oct 2020

Overall a fascinating story of a significantly dysfunctional family. There were some parts that seemed quite a bit biased and like a resentment but the truths help explain Donald Trump’s shameful behavior.

Profile Avatar Elise S. Oct 2020

Mary Trump does an excellent job of laying out the case for how her toxic family - in particular her grandfather - ruined her father and exalted her uncle Donald, and how this scenario resulted in the mess we’re in right now.

Profile Avatar Jeffrey M. Oct 2020

Explains a lot about him.

Profile Avatar Jess A. Oct 2020

Great book but there was nothing that surprised me too much. Actually, I was left feeling like maybe Trump can’t be held responsible for the person he became. He was molded and groomed to be Donald Trump, the character, from a very young age. The book was great for some personal anecdotes and insight into the mind of this disgusting man. I enjoyed Mary Trump’s memories of her father. That was pretty touching. This is a must read book if you’re not a fan of “The Donald”.

Profile Avatar Fredrick C. Oct 2020

Enlightening. well worth the read...

Profile Avatar Olivia C. Sep 2020

This was such a well-thought out, well-written, brave, and honest account of all of the factors that led to create the Donald Trump (and others) that we know today. It was fascinating - literally every sentence was interesting and illuminating. Highly recommended!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Sep 2020

Very informative. I wish Mary Trump was in the Whitehouse instead of her uncle. I hope that people read this before they vote.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Sep 2020

Brave and excellent . This book explains how DJT became the dangerous person he is.

Profile Avatar Jackie K. Sep 2020

That explains why he is like he. Is. I was going to vote for him,but I certainly am having second thought

Profile Avatar Susan Tyler Sep 2020

Mary's book pretty much backed up what I have learned about Donald Trump in his actions and words for this 2020 election

Profile Avatar Brenda E. Sep 2020

Mary is thoughtful and authentic. Listening to this book is like sitting down with a smart, funny friend as she tells you everything about her weird family.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Aug 2020

The book shows. What type of character for in steel in the children?

Profile Avatar Justin V. Aug 2020

Man. Trump is such an a*****. This book sums up how he got that way, by a trained psychologist. Every bad review is by sad, angry people. Feel bad for them. SAD!

Profile Avatar Paulette T. Aug 2020

This book was incredibly well written and narrated! I am very grateful to Mary for having the courage to write it! I plan to listen to it again while I will be on vacation with a friend, whom I know will appreciate it. Hopefully, there will be some crucial voters who will be convinced that Donald needs to be removed and filed away as the"aberration" that he is in our country's history.

Profile Avatar Alane S. Aug 2020

Very well written and read. Mary Trump gave a concise, factual history of the Trump family. She explained the toxic familial atmosphere under which she, her brother, father, aunts, uncles, cousins, and her mother lived and died. The book, written by a psychologist goes a long way in solidifying what we all have seen and heard where Donald J. Trump is concerned, regarding his (and his family's) unsavory business dealings and failures, as well as the horrific lack of leadership he displays as the leader of our nation. Ms. Trump is frank and honest as she describes her Uncle Donald's psychological abnormalities. She shows us how he became such a horribly cruel narcissist lacking moral fiber and spirituality. I feel so bad that Mary, Fritz and their parents were treated so terribly by this uncaring family. That she and her brother survived to become the grounded, successful people they are is a testament to their parents and their own strength of character. She is to be commended and praised for having the grit and determination to warn the citizens of the United States about President Trump's severely damaged psyche and flawed personality. Unfortunately, only a small percentage of his followers are likely to read the book. And, Cody S. (below), Ms. Trump is neither a whiner nor rich woman. Thank you, Mary Trump!!!!!!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Aug 2020

Seems like 90% of the book talks about Donald Trump's father and older brother and only about 10% about Donald.
