Unabridged Audiobook
I enjoyed this overview of the Tudor period and the narration was good but some mispronunciations of English towns which is fair enough when you’re not from England
This is not a sanitized version of history. Deception and treachery smeared throughout the generations. Brutal, but interesting.
If you love history, you gotta listen to this book. Fantastic research and writing and narration.
I’ve always been fascinated with royal history, especially the British. But this book takes you more behind the scenes, discussing previously little known details that give clearer insights into the why - or why not - events played out the way that they did.
I’ve read several books about the Tudors and this was a nice recap of their reign.
Excellent narration
Engrossing and informative, the history is thoughtfully presented in terms of the attitudes and politics of that time rather than of our own. The narration is clearly spoken without unduee drama, but it would have been good to have had a pronunciation check - e.g. the Earl of Warwick's name should sound like "Worrick".
Interesting gallery of characters. Missing some of the broader context.
Good account of the Tudor dynasty.
Tudors were perhaps the most infamous English royal family with names like Henry VIII and Bloody Mary being perhaps most well known. Tudors were notorious for their brutality, even their reign started with the horrendous killing and butchering of the last surviving Plantagenet king, Richard III. This book offers a comprehensive overview of Henry Tudor’s rise to power and follows his descendants right until the death of Elizabeth I. I personally, do not like the Tudor’s much and favour the Plantagenets. However, I found this book rather entertaining and informative. I’d say it’s a very good starting point for anyone interested in Tudor history.
Not for me this one
Readable, well told, and easy to follow history. The narration was a bit grating with several mispronounced words, strange way of saying dates ("nine October" instead of "the ninth of October") and poor attempts at accents, but it didn't detract too much from the information.
I enjoy this work more than I anticipated. So well written and crammed full of historically information presented in an easy to follow and understand format. The narration is also just splendid
Great book … gave a fantastic insight into Tudor life in general as well as royalty
I enjoyed reading the history of a faction of the royal family. It’s interesting to see how protective of family lines they were. It’s still true today…it’s about power. It is lengthy but I find history reveals much about who we are today.
I'm enjoying the stories; especially because they're true; but a paper version of this book would probably be better. I'd like to be able to look back and remind myself who is being referenced (so many people named Henry, Elizabeth, Edward, Margaret, John).
Highly interesting with some graphic details.
