While exploring the woods, Selene finds a porthole that takes her to another dimension realm of Aurelia with demons, goblins, vampires and harpies oh my! Finding herself a guest of the Queen, she meets Samael, One of the Queen’s guards. Sam is tasked to escort her to find the stone which will take her back to her world. But lies and deception abound as hidden agendas get in the way. Sam is the ultimate tortured demon who is so loved starved he gets in his own way. His longing for her is so palpable yet he keeps his desire under a tight control. Selene’s journey is one of personal growth to stand up for herself and learn that she is worthy of being loved just for herself and not what she can do for others. This opposites attract romantasy was a delight to listen to and I would love more from this author. Aileen Bishop’s narration is compelling with all the complexities of the numerous characters in the story. From Sam’s deep timber to the shrill of sirens, Bishop’s depiction brought this story to life.
Great world building and enjoyable characters. Kind of felt like I was listening to some of the fanfics I read as a teen, but with original characters and world. Overall I liked and and feel the narrator did a good job bringing the story to life.
