Abridged Audiobook
I literally just could NOT listen to this book. It's one of my favorite movies so I didn't bother to read the reviews because I already know and love the story but WOW, a very poor choice in a narrator. She not only had a monotonous tone but she read at such a pace that it wasn't even the slightest bit relaxing. I just couldn't. I really hope they redo this with another narrator so we can enjoy this amazing story. If you're reading this PRIOR to purchasing, unfortunately it's not worth even a small amount of money. Just watch the movie or choose another book. Very disappointed. I'm deleting it now.
I just tried to listen to this - I couldn't - maybe if I read the book it would be better - but to listen to it - it was like "blah, blah, blah"... Sorry....
I don't like to write bad things about any book but this one was simply awful. I didn't finish it. Maybe, maybe if the reader hadn't had that droning voice and hadn't gone on and on and on about the same things over and over. Really, there are too many good books to listen to and read to waste time on this one. SORRY
I was greatly disappointed in this audio book, and I hope that it was NOT the author doing the narrating........what a monotonous lifeless drawl! Whatever good attributes the book might have had, for once, I found the movie far better than the book. How equally bad are the other F. Mayes books I wonder? I will not bother to find out~
Listening to the narrator was painful—almost like nails on a chalkboard. There was no plot. I was waiting for a story—no story—just narration of beautiful scenery—yes, I already want to travel to Italy and living there sounds amazing. However, for a book this long—it just hit extremely repetitive and boring. And, if you aren’t a fan of first-person, this book is not for you.
One of my all time favorite books, Tuscany and food what more could u want!
I was very disappointed with this selection. I've lived in the south all my life but could not listen to this reader's accent for more than ten minutes.
This is one of the few books I've rented that I did not finish. It was not very good.
I did not enjoy this book. It did not hold my interest and the reader had no excitement in her voice. I actually listened to the first 2 disc's to give it a chance but gave up; maybe too soon.
I found the audio book disapointing. I kept waiting for the story to begin. I felt like I was listening to my old aunt tell me about her home repair not leaving out a single detail. The house seems great, but what are you going to do with it once its fixed? I had to stop listening after the second CD.
This Italy is very idyllic, almost fairy-tale like. I'm a Southerner so I didn't mind the deep Georgia drawl of the author as much as the rambling. Could definitely been condensed, but as I have never been to Italy gave me a glimpse of life there. I can understand the obsession with home remodeling and how a house can totally possess you.
I'm sure this book deserves more than a 1 star but I never got past the first chapter. The narration was not the least bit engaging. In fact, it was just darn intolerable.
This book is like getting a long letter from a friend who wants to tell you every single detail of her life and never once asks how you are. The descriptions of Italy are nice, but I really missed a plot. And the voice was annoying.
I had trouble sitting through this novel. It was entertaining and stimulating, but I did not connect with the reader. Perhaps it had something to do wih her Georgia accent compared to my Midwestern, Northern accent, but it did not pull me in like I would have liked.
There is a feeling that stays with you long after you have listened to this. It is nothing like the movie so if you compare them you will be disappointed.
