A lone DeathEater has forsaken his clan. Leaving behind his previous life, Skharr starts building a future next to a dangerous forest in an unknown land. He tells himself it is better than taking gold for questionable reasons.

A lone old man travelling with a donkey offers him a choice: Continue this farm life, or trade him Skharr's just finished home and tilled land for a map.

A map that Skharr can use to live large for years . . . If he survives.

The old peddler watches him.

Realizing the intelligence, the polished actions of the huge man is but an act. A carefully orchestrated semblance of civility, and shudders.

Of all the Barbarian hordes, the rumor was to never, ever upset a DeathEater.

And he had come here to unleash this particular DeathEater back into the world.

Skharr is a barbarian, always underestimated. Less action packed and more cerebral than most from Michael. If it seems a little slow .. just wait it picks up a lot as it goes on. Very enjoyable listen but requires a bit more thinking. If you do not like swearing this is not a book for you... like most books from Michael there is a fair amount of the f*bomb and the like. Not as entertaining as the Kurtherian universe in my opinion but worth a listen. If you enjoy the Mr. Brownstone books this is in the style of that series. I will defiantly continue on this series as well. The Narration is on point and easy to understand and brings Skharr to life.

I was pleasantly surpised with this book, I didn't think it was for me, but after listening to it, I love Skharr. He's no nonsense and gets the job done. And I see Mr Anderle has been working the creative cursing magic lol - there is cursing in this book but it's different to his other series :D I really enjoyed the book and the narrator has become one of my new favourites.
