Unabridged Audiobook
Alessandra Hazard really knows how to write tension between two characters, and Unnatural is no exception. The chemistry between Royce and Haydn is easily the strongest part of the book. Their whole alpha-alpha dynamic, the scent marking, Royce's increasingly possessive instincts, and Haydn's very confused reaction to finding himself submitting to another alpha created exactly the kind of tension Hazard does so well. There were moments when the attraction between them was almost palpable. I also really liked the idea behind this version of the omegaverse. The four moons, different types of alphas and omegas, mating cycles, Xeus alphas with their more primitive lupine traits, the politics surrounding secondary genders... There are so many interesting ideas here. The audiobook was excellent. Devlin Wylde has an absolutely gorgeous voice, and his Royce was My only complaint is his interpretation of Haydn. He sounded a little too soft from the very beginning. Haydn is an alpha too, and I would have loved to hear more contrast between his usual alpha personality and the way he gradually responds and submits specifically to Royce. It reminded me of listening to a sports commentator and realizing which team they're rooting for—you shouldn't be able to tell quite so soon.
