Unabridged Audiobook
I went into this book expecting a young adult paranormal romance. When I read the blurb it made me think of the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout—I thought it would be a similar read. Boy was I wrong. This novel ended up being so different than I expected. It’s not really a paranormal, it’s more sci-fi, and despite the fact that I am not in any way a fan of sci-fi novels, I loved it. The story was unique and fast paced, and the character development was excellent. There were characters I loved and hated, but they were all well thought out and executed. I’m trying to think of a comparison so readers might know what to expect and I can’t think of any. The best I can do is say it’s sort of like Sliders meets X-files meets Twilight meets Nancy Drew. LOL I guess that doesn’t really help. There were so many dimensions to this novel, both literally and figuratively, and I loved all the different elements. There was a bit of romance (I always love that), a bit of mystery (I love that the heroine inserts herself into an FBI investigation at seventeen and I still bought it), a little bit of science fiction, and a little bit dystopia. And surprisingly, it all blended together and worked. I will definitely read the next book in this series, and even though it’s not really a paranormal romance, I think readers of this genre will still enjoy it.
