DON’T MISS THE NEW DOCUMENTARY AMERICAN NIGHTMARE−NOW STREAMING ON NETFLIX

In March 2015, Denise Huskins and her boyfriend Aaron Quinn awoke from a sound sleep into a nightmare. Armed men bound and drugged them, then abducted Denise. Warned not to call the police or Denise would be killed. Aaron agonized about what to do. Finally he put his trust in law enforcement and dialed 911. But instead of searching for Denise, the police accused Aaron of her murder. His story, they told him, was just unbelievable. When Denise was released alive, the police turned their fire on her, dubbing her the “real-life ‘Gone Girl’” who had faked her own kidnapping.

In Victim F, Aaron and Denise recount the horrific ordeal that almost cost them everything. Like too many victims of sexual violence, they were dismissed, disbelieved, and dragged through the mud. With no one to rely on except each other, they took on the victim blaming, harassment, misogyny, and abuse of power running rife in the criminal justice system. Their story is, in the end, a love story, but one that sheds necessary light on sexual assault and the abuse by law enforcement that all too frequently compounds crime victims’ suffering.

This book is well written. It brings to light how powerless victims can be if there are small minded people in charge of an investigation! We listened to it on a long road trip and couldn’t stop listening, hoping that the Vallejo Police Department and the FBI would be held responsible for the mishandling of this case! The treatment of Denise after all she had gone through was despicable! AND the treatment of Aaron was so bad too! As people that live near Vallejo, Ca, were knew that Vallejo Police Department had many times been in the news for poor service to their community. The power that they have abused for many years is horrible! And then the office of public opinion! My heart broke for this poor couple and their families too. I cannot imagine how painful it was and continues to be! They are true survivors! I could go on and on. My only criticism would be that the male narrator’s voice would go from normal to very low at times and a bit stiff. We had to keep raising the volume up and back down to normal when he spoke. Otherwise, highly recommend!
